Light bulb camera pairing issues

Postby Galvatron » May 14th, 2024, 10:37 pm

Light bulb camera not pairing with Amplia router but works fine with Flow router.

Can anyone advise on any router settings I may need to alter, or have experienced similar issues?

Thanks.

My advice would be to get a dedicated router and just use the ISP device as a modem if you are setting up smart home devices and have many devices connected to wifi in your home or office

Amplia is dual band? make sure you have the 2.4ghz band setup properly. chances are those bulbs run on 2.4ghz wifi and not the 5ghz band

This. I bought one of those light bulb cameras from pmart in Jan. Ended up giving it away as my flow modem router was only 5ghz

Flow came and made a dual band on their router for long and short range WiFi.

Just turn off the 5GHz band, connect the bulb and then turn the 5GHz back on.

As Duane said, get something dedicated for the smart devices, or better, invest in a 2 or 3 unit mesh. There are setting to turn off the 5GHz for 10 mins to connect smart devices in the troubleshooting settings of the mesh app.

What model Flow modem they gave you? Maybe the 2.4 GHz is just turned off in the settings. Have you used the WiFi Analyzer app on your phone and check what signal it's outputting?

I have been trying to pair the camera to the 2.4GHz band by turning off the auto connect for the 5GHz band on the wireless device. I will try the suggested method though, to turn it off on the router. Thanks for the suggestions.

And you have to use the specific obscure app in the user manual.
Not all smart devices compatible with each other in one app.

Its the Arris white one that stands upright.
I didn't bother with it much thereafter as I would just order some Blink cameras when next I'm in Mia. At that point I would start back worrying about bands.

No, call Flow and tell them and they'll replace the modem. You'll get the new black one.

Yes. Factory reset the camera as well

You can try getting an upgraded router from your ISP or look at a dedicated router and use the ISP device as a modem only.
As maj.tom suggested, I recently changed my routers for a TP Link Deco mesh system and it works great with a myriad of smart home devices

how far away is the router from the bulb? try doing the pairing / config on a closer lamp socket then move to final location afterwards

Router and camera about 8 ft away from each other in the same room

Made a call to Amplia, was told that they needed to open a port at their end. Waited 7 days, no response from Amplia. Made another call only to be told that the issue is not at their end. Help desk said it's the camera, reminded her it works on Flow, so the camera isn't defective.

Are customer service reps/techs just clueless or just don't care in this country!
