both of them not ready for national politics leadership roles.
Too much mouth and ego, need some statesman training like KCR before the 2015 election. doh feel we didn't notice the polish, he reverted pretty quickly tho. But for a few fleeting months, he was well coached. Even Aunty Kams was getting some buff and polish for 2010 in terms of comportment and speaking.

Suspect it was a north American election consultant, but that's just a wild guess.

PEA definitely has some disorders from his family circle.

Gary rightly said he will never be good enough to hold a post in public office.

Imagine every week your PM or MP having a serious mental breakdown.

Alexander could pay that? Or is he hoping that his new found coalition will grant him the funds.

Alexander gets leave to petition Privy Council in Imbert defamation case

PHILLIP Edward Alexander, political leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP), will be petitioning the Privy Council in London as he challenges two previous decisions of the local courts, which directed that he pay Public Utilities Minister Colm Imbert more than $.5 million for defamation of character.

Alexander, who will be contesting the constituency Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West against Prime Minister Stuart Young in the April 28 general election, was yesterday granted permission to do so by the Appeal Court.

He is seeking to have the apex court set aside a ruling of the Court of Appeal delivered on February 12. In that ruling, Justices Mark Mohammed, Ronnie Boodoosingh and Geoffrey Henderson upheld the decision of High Court Justice Jacqueline Wilson who found in October 2023 that Alexander was liable for defaming Imbert. She had directed that he pay to the minister $525,000 in addition to his legal costs.

What led to Imbert taking Alexander to court had to do with seven publications on Facebook by Alexander between February 29, and March 1, 2020, related to the alleged purchase of an exotic Swedish sports car by Imbert when he was Finance Minister.

During the leave hearing at the Hall of Justice in Port of Spain yesterday, Justices Peter Rajkumar, Maria Wilson and Ronnie Boodoosingh, gave Alexander the green light to file his final appeal.

When the Appeal Court heard the first appeal in February, Alexander’s attorney Gregory Armorer argued that Justice Jacqueline Wilson had erred in law when she decided to analyse the seven posts together as a running commentary as opposed to doing so individually.

In his view, if the judge had done this, his client would not have been found liable. Even if he was, this could have only been because of three of the posts. This in turn he said, would have resulted in the court awarding Imbert much less than the $.5 million.

Armorer pointed out that most of the posts were questions being posed by Alexander on whether Imbert had in fact purchased the vehicle at a cost of US$2 million and from where he had obtained the money to do so.

“He did not say that Imbert had done anything wrong. Is it defamatory to ask questions?” asked the lawyer rhetorically.

In response to his submissions however, Russell Martineau, SC, who appeared along with Jason Mootoo, SC, for Imbert, said the judge had in fact applied the correct test by considering all of the posts together as a running commentary.

“When taken as a whole, he (Alexander) is suggesting something underhand took place. These are rhetorical questions and suggestive questions. We are not that naive,” Martineau had submitted.

He went on to add that the allegations were very serious in nature to make, not just the Minister of Finance, but to any citizen.

“You have to respect people’s reputation or else what type of society are we going to have? Anarchy. The seeds of anarchy have been sown. This is not picong. This is more than picong,” he stressed.

This is going to be interesting I hope this case goes before the same lord that questioned why imbert in the capacity of Minister of Finance wasn't investigated.

i hope the privy council considers if

three facebook posts

are worth the equivalent of 2 years full-time labour of a physician, or 5 years of a nurse working full-time, or a full decade of full-time labour by a retail worker

three posts on facebook. I just scroll over three posts about memes about skeletor. never know facebook posts were so powerful and valuable but i guess it up to the privy council now

attached is an example of a typical facebook post in my feed
