Got a brand new Mac LC-580 for my sweet 16 from CCS in sando

Had all those games plus after dark games, duke nukem 3D, Eliza the almost A.I psychotherapist and Hornet F/A 18 most advanced aircraft simulation of the day. Running on a 66mhz Motorola CPU no math co-processor with only 16mb of ram

Trying to decide to upgrade my aging iPhone 12 to the 15. Any news on the 16? It's probably a while a way, I just feel like the last few iPhone have been pretty much the same with only marginal updates. I feel like something big is on the horizon.

The camera difference between the 12 and the 15 is considerable IMO

Ai seems to be the next big thing with iPhones.
What ppl are saying is that the 16 will have more Ai processing power in the new A18 chip in the iPhone 16.
I have a 13 pro and I'm waiting to see how much of a deal breaker the new Ai processing and Ai built into iOS 18 that it will use will make. If the Ai in iOS 18 will work on the A17 chip and lower then it might not make sense for me to upgrade, however knowing Apple there will be things the iPhone 16 will do the previous models won't be able to do.
Apple is looking at making Ai processing on the device instead of in the cloud, which means it will be faster and not require an internet connection, making it more secure too.
Siri on the iPhone 16 might be the next big thing - maybe.

Good insights Duane, I think you're probably right. All the big phone manufacturers are making a big song and dance about AI. I still think Siri is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. Really how is it still so bad. Surly they are working on something like a ChatGPT equiv. No doubt they will reserve a bunch of the cool features for the 16.. Bah I might see if I can get a used 14 Pro.

I think it's even less useful than a screen door on a submarine lol
Yes a number of reviewers are saying Siri is set to have a huge update in iOS 18.
HOPEFULLY

We will see what they announce at WWDC 2024 in June.

Anyone got one of these wireless carplay adapter's? Saw this article on MSN.com, bit of an ad but I want one now https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/up ... r-AA1nTIQR. The adaptor mentioned can be found https://ekiy.com.au/products/wireless-carplay-adapter.

Wireless CarPlay is nice but god damn it’s a battery hog while streaming and using nav. I’d say the best move is to get a wireless charger mat to go along with it. So either stick with wired car play or get wireless charger to compensate

Excited about M4 but would never get an iPad. It's basically a nerfed macbook pro at this point with the new big screen.

There are uses for iPads that MacBooks can't do. Apple Pencil being a big one.
It depends on your use-case.
I know people who use an iPad as their primary computer and don't want a laptop or a desktop. I tried it and it can't work for me as a primary device.

Just picked up last year’s version (M1) of the iPad Air for the wife from Best Buy, it makes the most sense for us because everything can be shared and interchanged with my m1 iPad Pro. Got 100$ off the iPad Air and the pencil 2 for $90

The new Air is USB C pencil and pencil pro only sadly and iPad Pro m4 Display unit feels ridiculous in the hand for me to use in a commercial setting. My primary uses are diagnostics on equipments and work order forms to be signed by the customer so it’s always on me or in my tool bag, being more fragile would be a shot in the foot for me

iOS 17.5—Concern As iPhone Users Report Deleted Photos Are Reappearing
https://www.forbes.com/sites/kateoflahertyuk/2024/05/15/ios-175-concern-as-iphone-users-report-deleted-photos-are-reappearing

According to those reporting the iOS 17.5 bug, the deleted photos are appearing in their recent gallery. This indicates the issue is not related to recently deleted photos being reinstated.

As many users are pointing out, if Apple is keeping hold of the photos that are reappearing since updating to iOS 17.5, it’s a major privacy concern. So what’s going on?

Many people are worried the iOS 17.5 bug means Apple isn’t really deleting your photos. But the answer could be more simple: Perhaps it’s an issue where deleted photos have failed to sync in iCloud, preventing them from being deleted altogether.

Interesting that no money passed in this Apple and OpenAi ChatGPT deal

meanwhile Microsoft paid OpenAi $13B for their partnership with OpenAi.

Microsoft is getting OpenAI to use its cloud servers, so over time they might make back the money.
But it’s also why Apple prefers to do the processing on the device itself and reserve cloud compute for the really big lifting that many users may not make use of.

Apple integrated OpenAi into their OS so users won’t even feel as if they are using ai.
Solve a math sum with the calculator on the phone or remove a person from a photo. It’s all ai but the user doesn’t know it.
It’s different from the usual way we have used generative ai where we open an ai app and then ask it to do something.

but on-device processing also means older devices won’t be able to do the ai driven features - So only from M1 and up and only from iPhone 15 Pro and up
Salt for everybody else

Apple said they are doing on-device compute for security reasons - that way your activity and data is not shared with OpenAi or anyone else

Well it also works on iPads and Macs from 2020 forward.

I would have been worried that he know some secret devious inside info we do not. But it’s The same A.I he wanted to put in his teslas. So might just be his sour grapes.

Aaaaand foot in mouth. hopefully I haven’t set myself up for damages but JerryRig has shown it holds up well

My m1 iPad pro /magickeyboard/pencil will be going to a new home soon.

It never occurred to me that email, word, excel and overall PC computing can be extremely daunting and hard for the older heads. To simply type a quotation or generate an electronic copy of an invoice is a huge task… not to even mention handwriting it then to operate a scanner, pretty much rocket science right??.

So now the ipad will open up having the hand writing directly onto a scanned template of his invoice and job sheets then to email in a couple taps with automatically saving and printing over his network at home. Highly portable with ease of use because he’s familiar with his mobile phone is a win.

Overkill?… nah..
Progress?… maybe
