OTC stuff with Doxylamine succinate is where you should start.

Don't take valium unless you absolutely need it, you grow dependent on it quickly.

That shidz messed me up once. A elderly relative was using it and it wasn't effective. I decided to try half to see if it was expired or so. Took it on an all saints evening, and went to sleep. Got up a few hours later and drove around to see the light up in the cemeteries. The following morning when I fully wore off all I could remember was seeing fire in the cemeteries, I don't know how I got there or how I got back home. Could've even recognize individual candles, just general fire not me again

Yes, it's not to be played with if you don't have self control. I trying to regulate my sleep cycle and / or shut down. There are nights my mind will race and be on overdrive and I can't fall asleep. If I don't get new info to challenge my mind it does this hence I keep looking for something to really challenge me.

Valium and xanax helps w/relax but never puts me to sleep. Don't like using benzos on a regular basis. The only thing that has ever worked consistently is ambien. The abbott amb seems to work the best.

Those white/brown noise generator apps work for me. Give it a go. attach to a bluetooth speaker and set the timer to 1/2 hr or so. I may not work for chronic insomnia, but it gets me to sleep fast. I'm an intermittent insomnia sufferer.
