OPT Issuer Fee for Digicel Topup

Postby Eskayem » March 8th, 2024, 7:56 pm

Anyone else seeing this charge?

Noticed an "OPT Issuer Fee" on my credit card statement when I top up through the MyDigicel app.

Apparently MyDigicel charges TTD to the USD side of your credit card so even though you see it as a TTD transaction on your credit card it was only specified in TTD but taken in USD.

It adds 2.5% to each topup unnecessarily. If they charged USD then there would be no fee.

If it's not everyone then somehow the app doesn't recognize my card as local and it's charging it as a foreign card with USD as the only option?

recently did a topup from the app. same thing. Noticed its going through a processor in the netherlands which means digi is not using a local payments processor. I think for it to clear as local TT it needs to be processed through FirstAtlantic in Bermuda.

Rbl told me many online platforms for effecting payment using a credit card is denominated in USD for those watching your USD use on your credit card.

Question.
if this is what going on with payments being made for their prepaid phone customers, is this also happening with their commercial and residential phone/internet/tv customers as well?
