Update your iPhone: Apple just pushed out a significant security update

Apple rolled out an update to its iOS operating system this week with a feature called Stolen Device Protection that makes it a lot harder for phone thieves to access key functions and settings. Users are being urged to turn it on immediately.

Stolen Device Protection adds a layer of security when your iPhone is away from familiar locations, such as home or work, and helps protect your accounts and personal information in case your iPhone is ever stolen.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212510

Stolen Device Protection is available with iOS 17.3 and must be turned on before the device is lost or stolen.

iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3
Released January 22, 2024

You want to know why the 3D TV fad failed?
Until they improve on this and many other things, it'll just be an unaffordable fad that most people cannot even use outside their living room. Good attempt at this though, for a Gen 1. In about a decade they'll be able to fix the current processing power of an RTX 4090 on a SoC.

You cannot wear Apple Vision Pro while wearing eyeglasses. If you require prescription eyeglasses, including for astigmatism, you may be able to order prescription ZEISS Optical Inserts that can be used with your Vision Pro.https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213965

Compared to a phone? A device that currently has practical use for everyone?
By all means capitalism complainer, go buy one and be useful to society.

apparently 200,000 units already sold

This is a proof of concept and may very well launch a new era of computing, similar to what the iPhone did in 2007.
Remember the iPhone launched with tons of critics including Microsoft's then CEO Steve Balmer saying "Apple's new invention is a waste of money. "Five hundred dollars? Fully subsidized?".
At the time the iPhone ditched the physical keyboard, had only a few apps, no AppStore and critics said it lacked productivity and ability to operate in a business environment.

Apple has been creating devices like the iPod, iPhone, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch etc that changed the industry in each segment.
Apple sells some of the best laptops and computers for creators, I don't think their plan is to cannibalise that.

The point I was making about why 3D TVs failed is that manufacturers did not account for two things: affordable consumer prices that makes it just within reach of everyone to be able to eventually adopt it (like the iPhone), and that not everyone has perfect stereovision. Almost everyone has some degree of astigmatism. Not being able to use it with glasses and they suggest to buy Zeiss Optical Inserts in your glasses prescription. If they don't fix that issue, nobody with glasses will use it and only if they have contact lens. These days that's quite a large percentage of the population, and especially younger people have out of control myopia progression now. Not addressing the variable field of view for every individual with software will make it fail just like 3D Television.

Like I said, it's pretty amazing Gen 1 what they did here. I hope this won't be a dead end and that this is truly another turning point for consumer-technology devices as the iterations and clones and other manufacturers get on board. But it's only if people are going to use them consistently like the iPhone that will push innovation. Facebook is definitely going to do something big with their Meta Platform to take advantage of this device.

Steve Jobs did not envision mobile apps as we know it today. He was selling a Chromebook style system where everything you wanted to do happened inside the Safari browser. When hackers jailbreak the iPhone and side installed apps Steve had a light bulb moment.

The EU is upsetting Apple with all these new rules that allows EU consumers proper access and equal fair choices to their devices. I can tell you they weren't happy with USB-C. When the EU implements serious right-to-repair Apple will do something drastic.

"Spatial Computing"
I don't think it's a phone replacement, but instead as a computer.
First there were mini computers, then desktops, then laptops, iPads, tablets and convertibles, now spatial computers.
The Vision Pro has the same M2 processor in Apple desktops and laptops, it can run desktop class software with desktop type layouts.
The iPhone when first revealed was touted as an iPod, a phone and an internet device. That's what people bought first.

Some people may see a use case for the Vision Pro instead of buying a Mac with a Studio display, keyboard and mouse as the same value as this but technically getting a much bigger display and screen real estate depending on their needs. The Vision Pro has a display with 23million pixels.

So I don't see it as a phone replacement but a computer replacement.
Desktop is a computer on your desk, laptop is a computer on your lap, this is a computer on your face.

Watch this as a practical use case

Saw a post ( https://www.instagram.com/reel/C2yMkztL8-0/?igsh=MXV3c2J1OHlwYmxmeQ== ) where the Digicel rep draws reference to using an esim with smart watches. Last time I checked this wasn't available locally. Can anyone confirm if this has changed? Already contacted Digicel support via their live chat and multiple reps could not provide any level of confirmation.

i waiting to see what Oculus does this year.

the best feature is how you can work off your mac device and do computing. but that wont last long unless you have a special desk where you can lay your head back and still use the keyboard.

the application is great, but not for long term uses. that would be a big strain on your neck if used at a desk.
