Don't think of 8GB of RAM of unified apple silicon memory as the same as 8GB of RAM on a PC.
MacOS is much better at managing the RAM
If you are using the Mac for daily work, browsing with many tabs open, watching videos, consuming content, word processor, spreadsheets, video calling, email, even editing photos and 1080p videos then 8GB of RAM on an M1 or M2 or M3 Mac you should be fine.
Google Chrome is heavy on RAM. Safari is much better at using RAM.
If however you plan on editing 4K video, have heavy workloads, compiling code and doing a lot of multitasking with heavy apps then look at 16GB or 24GB.

I have an M2 MacBook Air with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD and it blows past my Intel i7 iMac 5K with 24GB RAM and 4GB R9 Radeon when editing photos and videos.
Infact I've never seen the MacBook Air use swap memory yet and the Intel iMac is always using swap

Bought the 15pro, QR code provided by Digi worked well up here as a swap no issues, don’t even need roaming

RCS coming to Apple, finally. Seems like the EU forcing USB-C opened the door for further integrations. This could also mean a viable, secure and embedded OS alternative to Whatsapp, as iMessage and Google Messages will now be RCS cross-platform compatible and work the same way as Whatsapp.

https://9to5mac.com/2023/11/16/apple-rcs-coming-to-iphone/
In a surprising move, Apple has announced today that it will adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard. The feature will launch via a software update “later next year” and bring a wide range of iMessage-style features to messaging between iPhone and Android users.

Apple’s decision comes amid pressure from regulators and competitors like Google and Samsung. It also comes as RCS has continued to develop and become a more mature platform than it once was.

RCS brings iMessage-style features to cross-platform texts
In a statement to 9to5Mac, an Apple spokesperson said that the company believes RCS will offer better interoperability for cross-platform messages.

Later next year, we will be adding support for RCS Universal Profile, the standard as currently published by the GSM Association. We believe RCS Universal Profile will offer a better interoperability experience when compared to SMS or MMS. This will work alongside iMessage, which will continue to be the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users.

RCS brings many iMessage-style features to cross-platform messaging between iPhone and Android devices. This includes things like read receipts, typing indicators, high-quality images and videos, and more.

When RCS support launches later next year, the limitations of SMS and MMS will no longer haunt (most) messaging conversations between iPhone and Android users. Availability can still vary from carrier to carrier, but all three major US carriers support RCS, as do the vast majority of other carriers around the world.

Hey guys, switched to a new phone and I was wondering how backup and restore of WhatsApp would work with an e-sim and a regular sim.
Wondering if it would be as simple as choosing which sim I want to register WhatsApp with when I restore from backup.

Whatsapp is backed up to a cloud account so when you install Whatsapp on the new phone and verify the phone number just sign in with the cloud account and restore from backup at the start. eSIM/physical sim makes no difference to verification just select the number you want to use Whatsapp with.

!!!If you skip that step at the start it won't restore later, it will just overwrite the old backup with the new backup!!!

To make it clearer, these are the steps you should take:

1.On the old phone manually backup your whatsapp chats to cloud one last time.

2.The new phone: as soon as you verify the number on the new phone, the old whatsapp on the old phone becomes invalid and you can't access it anymore.

3. When you verify the phone number on the new phone it will ask to restore backup and sign into your cloud that your previously used. Do the restore right there and then because you cannot do it later.

4. Uninstall whatsapp from the old phone, factory wipe it, etc.

^ no issues so far

Anyone has experience buying premium renewed electronics on Amazon? I’m looking at a renewed M2 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM and 512GB storage that’s currently listed for US$979.00 https://amzn.to/47yt88a
Are these safe to buy?

nah, I don't trust refurbed unless it's factory refurb sold by apple (or the manufacturer for other products) with suitable warranty.
Amazon has become like eBay, and there's a cesspool of shady third party sellers.

It actually looks good. The seller is registered in NJ (ADN Global) and is one of Amazon's qualified 3rd party sellers for renewed electronics and the address is the same as the US Mobile store which the seller is also registered as CEO.

Amazon renewed means refurbished and guaranteed by Amazon. Just not certified refurbished by Apple. In this case for a 2022 model listed as Premium Renewed, it could just mean it's a display model without the original packaging, checked over by the seller and you will get it in a brown box. You will get 1 year Amazon warranty.

btw have you read the latest on how Apple knows their customers are tools and will take it? It's currently a huge meme on YouTube tech channels and real benchmark tests show that Apple is just loling hilariously while they take your money. https://www.pcgamer.com/apple-vp-says-8gb-ram-on-a-macbook-pro-analogous-to-16gb-ram-on-a-pc-we-just-happen-to-be-able-to-use-it-much-more-efficiently/

No that's not an iOS 17 issue, that's been happening randomly years now to people - it has to do with the phone carrier and Facetime and iMessage

Go to Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage. Go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off FaceTime. Restart your iPhone. Turn iMessage and FaceTime back on.

^^ yup.. and strangely enough, not sure if it’s ridiculous coincidence but the 2 times mine dropped were on road trips to toco. It took until I went into POS and then reactivated. Coincidence or witchcraft

Apple Watch Import Ban Starts Today—Here’s What To Know As Newer Watch Sales Stop
https://www.forbes.com/sites/jamesfarrell/2023/12/26/apple-watch-import-ban-starts-today-heres-what-to-know-as-newer-watch-sales-stop/?sh=76e68ca972e6

Imports and U.S. sales of some Apple Watches were officially banned Tuesday, as an October ruling finding the watches’ blood oxygen detection technology infringed on another company’s patent took effect—and the Biden administration declined to reverse the decision.

· The U.S. International Trade Commission ruled in October that Apple had infringed on tech company Masimo’s patent and issued an order banning all sales and imports of watches containing the technology in question, but the Biden Administration had 60 days to decide whether it would veto the decision—an unusual move.

· The U.S. Trade Representative’s office announced Tuesday “after careful consultations,” it would not reverse the decision, allowing it to take effect.

· The ruling bars the U.S. sale of any Apple Watches that contain the alleged patent-infringing technology, which the tech company began installing in the 2020 Apple Watch Series 6 and included in the latest Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2.

Apparently they are having an issue with FaceTime and iMessage verification codes and trying to resolve with apple. Hopefully by end of year to resolve but they did do the sim update

I dont know what the relation is but whatever they did and i reboot my phone, the face id goes unavailable again. This is the second time. Cant be a coincidence. When i toggle the imessage and reboot it eventually activates again.

But the imessage still doesn’t recognize my phone number only email addresses for now

It can be done directly in Pages.
Click Insert>Equations...
Type in your LaTeX or MathML equation and it will convert it
