President Christine Kangaloo has said it is time to prioritize autonomy for Tobago and give Tobago the self-government it deserves.
In her feature address during her inaugural visit to the island, President Kangaloo said she had not addressed the topic in the opening of Parliament because she wanted to first raise it with the Tobagonian community directly first.
She stated, "At this crucial juncture in our country's history, it is our duty to prioritize the issue of Tobago's autonomy on a national level."
She emphasized the need for increased efforts in achieving self-governance for the island. "I believe it is time to thoroughly review and revisit the matter of Tobago's autonomy," she asserted, adding that she believes the moment has come for a final legislative push towards granting autonomy to Tobago.

Both islands can have self-government and still be part of the Republic.
Seceding on the other hand would be complex.

does that count the expanded gas fields? I remember that was part of some discourse some time ago. Standalone/independent both islands would have reduced access to offshore gas fields.
What about the contributions from the population that lives or visits the island? Is that in there or not? I don't see anything that accounts for the contributions from income and goods taxes collected as part of the TTD200 million total.16 cycles wrote:VexXx Dogg wrote:Monk BANzai wrote:eliteauto wrote:Autonomy is not the same as independence. the exclusive economic zone in which our oil and gas fields are located is calculated from the archipelagic baseline of the two islands.
The moment Tobago gets independent, it's the moment they become little Germanymaj. tom wrote:Let Tobago run a referendum like Scotland did in 2014. If that's what the people of Tobago want, make up the treaty and make the cut. Let Tobago be just another poor impoverished small island in the Caribbean, but they have their own independent affairs and Treasury to see about.
Just remember that the voting public is always highly stupid and easily manipulated like Brexit.
