They was right after people started reported high winds all over the country on social media. Alot of these MET people are switched on social media just like the rest of us, so they update it based on that and make it look like an accurate prediction.

A tropical wave, located just on the African coast (near 15W-16W) has been given a 20% chance of formation into a tropical cyclone (tropical depression, storm, hurricane) in the next seven (7) days, as analyzed by the National Hurricane Centre (NHC). Environmental conditions are expected to become favourable for development as the system moves westward.

This tropical wave is moving westward at an average speed of about 27km/hr and will be in the vicinity of the eastern Caribbean in about a week.

The TTMS will continue to monitor the development of this system. Please continue to pay attention to the latest forecasts, alerts, and information issued by the TTMS. The Public Forecast is updated daily at 6AM, 10AM, and 4PM. https://www.metoffice.gov.tt/.

New tropical depression expected to become first 2023 hurricane -US center

(Reuters) - The third topical depression of the 2023 hurricane season has formed in the central tropical Atlantic and is expected to become a hurricane in a few days, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Monday.

The depression, about 1,425 miles (2,295 km) east of the southern Windward Islands, is packing maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour (55 km per hour), the Miami-based forecaster said.

"The depression is forecast to strengthen and move across the Lesser Antilles as a hurricane on Thursday and Friday, bringing a risk of flooding from heavy rainfall, hurricane-force winds, and dangerous storm surge and waves," the hurricane center said.

While it was too early to specify the location and magnitude of where those hazards could occur, the center urged authorities in the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands to closely monitor the system and have hurricane plans in place.

If the depression becomes a hurricane, it would be the first one of the 2023 season, which lasts from June through November.

A slightly below-average 2023 Atlantic hurricane season lies ahead with an El Nino weather phenomenon damping the storm outlook, researchers at Colorado State University predicted in April.

The only time that there is a change is if a storm is so deadly or costly that the future use of its name on a different storm would be inappropriate for obvious reasons of sensitivity. If that occurs, then at an annual meeting by the committee (called primarily to discuss many other issues) the offending name is stricken from the list and another name is selected to replace it.

Tropical Storm Bret’s trailing rain bands continue to produce gusty winds and heavy rains over portions of the Windward Islands. Tropical Storm Cindy forms over the Central Tropical Atlantic and is gradually strengthening.
TROPICAL STORM BRET

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) continues to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Bret as it continues its passage across the Windward Islands and moves into the Caribbean Sea. At 5 a.m. today, Friday 23rd June 2023, Bret was centred near 13.4N 62.9W. The system is moving toward the west near 30km/h and this general motion is expected to continue over the weekend. On the forecast track, the centre of Bret will continue moving westward away from the Windward Islands and across the eastern and central Caribbean Sea during the next couple of days. Refer to Figure 1. for the forecast track of Bret.

Maximum sustained winds are near 95km/h with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 km from the centre. Weakening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Bret is expected to dissipate over the central Caribbean Sea by Saturday night or Sunday.

The government of Barbados has discontinued the Tropical Storm Warning for Barbados. The government of Dominica has discontinued the Tropical Storm Warning for Dominica.

A Tropical Storm Warning is currently in effect for St. Lucia, Martinique and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In this case, a Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are occurring within the warning area. Interests adjacent to the south-eastern Caribbean Sea should monitor the progress of Bret.

TROPICAL STORM CINDY

Earlier this morning, Friday 23rd June 2023, Tropical Depression Four (TD4) strengthened and was upgraded to Tropical Storm Cindy. At 5 a.m. today, Cindy was centred near 12.1N 46.9W. The system is moving toward the west-northwest near 24 km/h, and this general motion is expected to persist during the next few days. On the forecast track, the system is expected to remain well east and north-east of the northern Leeward Islands through early next week. Refer to Figure 2. for the forecast track of Cindy.

Maximum sustained winds are estimated to be near 75 km/h with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next few days. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 95km from the centre.

The TTMS wishes to underscore that these systems pose no immediate threat to Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and its Dependencies.
