Actually two of his songs were in that movie.
Day-O, and Shake Shake Senora.
He had a long life, and left a good legacy to the world.

May he rest in peace forever.

Actually he stole the Banana Boat song from Trinidadian Calypsonian Edric Connor "Day Dah Light" without giving him any credit whatsoever and made millions doing it. He was hated by all Trinidadians in the 50's / 60's and falsely wore the "king of Calypso" title given to him by the Americans. He plagiarized, copied and stole... he wasn't even Caribbean born.

Edric Connor made a collection songs which are traditional jamaican folk songs put them on an album and made money while he was living in London. There was obviously no major banana industry in Trinidad to sing about and since it was not his song there was nothing for Harry to steal.

Harry did push our style of music out for the world to hear. Made us popular during those times. Local performers was just jealous.

Agreed, the song itself was a Jamaican folk song. Edric Conner was the first to record the song in the style Belafonte reproduced it in. That was the one and only period in time that Calypso was popular in the USA, around that time the Andrews Sisters also stole Rum and Coca Cola from Lord Invader.
