there's a theory that these highly-virulent bat viruses evolved as a sort of biological weapon against other animals that try to enter the caves. The bat viruses replicate highly in the bats but, because of the quirks of bat immune systems, it doesn't affect them past a sneeze and some mucus. Pass that same virus onto the dotish primates that enter bat caves and boom - one setta dead primates and bats keep the caves all to themselves.
Caves generally are good places to live - shelter, water, food. But don't screw around with bats.
