If the bill fails, PNM will simply say the PDP together with the UNC kill the bill. PDP would say what tobagonians wanted was not in the bill and PNM rejected same when PP was in power.
My UNC Family!
We have another reason for wanting new UNC Leadership!
Today the Opposition missed a golden opportunity at making history and being responsible for giving Tobago Self-Government when they scuttled the Bill by walking out of the Parliament before the Vote was taken.
You the people have been supporting Tobago autonomy for many years now, you believe in giving Tobago all the necessary tools to be self sustaining and less dependent on Trinidad.
The Opposition had nothing to lose and everything to gain in kickstarting the process for a more independent Tobago. They brought no amendments to the Bill and their only argument was that they needed more consultations even after spending 3 years on a JSC doing the work.
What happens now that the Bill has failed? We go back to same ole rhetoric of those in the Parliament blaming each other for Tobago's woes.
So the next time you angrily ask 'Why do we have to give billions to Tobago annually for their upkeep when they could be generating their own revenues?' Know that OL KPB frittered away the opportunity to give Tobago autonomy and really wants you the taxpayers to continue to spend your billions there.
OL KPB has lost all credibility on speaking on Tobago issues henceforth. The hope for Tobago Self Govt was killed by KPB today.
Stay Woke T&T

I don't see any UNC's resistance. All I see is the usual antics of bias from the PM and house speaker.elec2020 wrote:Without the Opposition’s support, the bills will fail and therefore the Constitution cannot be amended to provide for the establishment of a Tobago Legislature with law-making powers over prescribed matters and a Tobago Island Government with exclusive executive powers to govern Tobago, headed by a premier.

So again, UNC's resistance so far may derail the bill. I agree, some things in the Bill (like the increase in national allowance) i disagree on but that was put forward years now and never turned down after consecutive JSC meetings. So if it stayed in then why is it now an issue? As i said the Bill not perfect but would significantly help Tobagonians to move forward.

I fail to understand how the party members for UNC cannot realize that their biggest liability is their leader. Now, regardless of the end result, UNC lost Tobago for the next GE as Tobagonians would perceive the actions by UNC are meant to keep Tobago down. As long as I know Tobagonians want independence. If you want there votes it make sense to prevent them from getting something they wanted badly for so long? Stupidity

Tobagonians want autonomy, not independence. There is a big difference.

UNC not in power, why blame UNC when the Red government keeps failing.j.o.e wrote:UNC is not interested in doing the people’s business but putting roadblocks in the way of public policy.

If the red government was that good then Bill should have passed easy. Seems red government puts in purpose flaws and then blames kams

When Tobagonians get fed up, they will declare their independence from T&T and take away half of our EEZ's.
LOL.

Like you already apply for your Tobago citizenship.
Dis why they got rid of Ramona.sam1978 wrote:j.o.e wrote:
Unless I’m deaf , I’m certain I heard Kamala say that she got info that the PNM intended to gut the bill. Rowrow said that Kamala said the PNM gutted the bill ( left out the word intended to) . Ramona then repeated what Rowrow said and not what Kamala said.
Btw, Ramona really believe without Kamala she has any value?

Are you comfortable and ok with a bill that not only increases Tobago's allocation of the National Budget, but allows them to develop their Oil/gas and other resources (funding source Trinidad) all while retaining such funds for the sole retention and use of Tobago, while not having a SINGLE accountability measure?
Please frame your answer without Kamla/UNC.
Thanks

Please cite where the bill says that?

Yeah, that'd be useful, because my (admittedly limited) understanding is that the bill was designed to prevent exactly that from happening. Specifically, I recall that coming to the end of the debate, the pm specifically mentioned that they cannot support any aspect of autonomy that could jeopardize the O&G sector
