I went to rave cakes and got one there and wow the cake was amazing but I think I overloaded it with too much chocolate but the cakes was really great looking and tasted even better...the service was also really great....also I would recommend crave treats as I also ordered some cup cakes there and they were really good

THE well-known Linda’s Bakery chain has increased its items prices between 50 cents and $1 owing to the impact of the covid19 pandemic.

Owner Peter George told Newsday via Whatsapp messages that the new prices have been in the public domain for a while now.

“These were done well over a week ago and we have communicated and continue to communicate with all of our customers in a direct level.

“Our last increase was 2018. We have held the price on hops, whole wheat slice and many of our other key items.”

George was unable to comment further at the time because he was travelling.

A worker, who wished not to be named, said increased costs in imports, freight, production, maintenance of machinery and other labour have forced the “minimal” increases in their products.

The worker said even with the increase in demand for foreign exchange and raw materials, the company continued to absorb those shocks for the past 15 months.

The worker added that Linda’s prices on their staple items, in most cases, remained at the original price and the increases were added in other areas.

Linda’s bakery has 20 locations throughout the country and their items include breads, savoury pastries, sweet treats, cakes, salads, sandwiches and bagels, wraps and subs.

Newsday checked one of Linda’s bakeries and found that a white club loaf has increased from $15 to $16, potato pie was now $6, beef hot and spicy — $8, coconut and currant rolls — $10, tuna and vege salads — $45, other meat salads — $49, salad bowls — $45, chicken sandwich — $17, egg/tuna/bacon sandwiches — $20, chicken sandwich — $22 and wraps — $35.

Make your own sammiches and bread. $16.00 for white bread?

I dont get it. Linda's should be one of the few places making exceptional sales during this lockdown.

If you can't bake yourself, then small and home-based bakeries ftw, support the small businesses. During the lockdown last year we went from doing cakes and catering to making bread once a week and delivering in our community, eventually, we started doing it twice a week and that has supported us during this time. Interestingly for a long while when we posted our weekly bread menu on our community chat there was another resident who would post Linda's offerings shortly after, she had no link to them, just the "natural" tendency to support brand name

Well I have to say these lockdowns are doing something good to the health of some people, less access to sugary snacks and fast food.

Linda's mad no ass with their 1% pricing. Of course I see and walk on by.

A 3 pack of currents roll is $36.00. That is $12.00 for one. Imagine that is wayyyyy cheaper than Massy which sells a 3 pack of currents roll for $19.00.

A sandwich loaf is $16.50. Massy sandwich loaf is $10.50 and the other bakeries are about the same.

I don't know which Linda's Newsday goes to.

Linda's currants roll far better than Massy's tho. Does not justify that cost tho.

Agreed, lot of smaller higher quality better priced businesses have stepped up and made folks aware that there are options other than the big mass brand names.

There are also some ridiculously priced ones out there too. Lot of “seafood boil” sellers

Does anyone on tuner remember Holsum Breads and Cakes and do you know of any bakery that makes Fruit Slices? The Fruit Slices were dark fruit cakes with pastry on both sides covered in icing sugar.

I think so.
I swear Kiss used to have new products every single time I went grocery (but you wouldn't see the past month's product). Earlier this year bought Kiss pancakes with a jelly filling, never to see it again.
