That pump is sealed so might have to look at a replacement

Was it working when you bought it or at least have you used this pump before?

Those pumps really can't handle filtering the average 16' x 48" above ground pool.
It's probably better to get a Hayward 1/2hp or higher pump and a sand filter if you plan on keeping your above ground pool for a long time. The water will be much cleaner and better maintained.

that and an Intex skimmer and you good to go

Only if you have an EasySet Intex pool they upgraded pump might not make sense.
But definitely for a metal / prism frame above ground pool.

That pump is definitely too small to effectively clean that size of pool
