If Trump can influence just half his 70 million Twitter fans to switch to Parler...I’d like to know how to buy stock in that company.

US President accused of money laundering in Scottish parliament

A Scottish Green party MSP has said there were “big questions” to be answered over Donald Trump’s business deals in the country. Patrick Harvie said unexplained wealth orders should be used to investigate how President Trump paid for his Scottish golf resorts.

The allegations were fiercely rebuffed by Trump’s son Eric, who said they had “no basis in fact”. He accused Harvie of making “disgusting statements” that were “reckless, irresponsible and unbecoming for a member of the Scottish Parliament”.

Eric Trump said the Trump Organisation had “invested hundreds of millions of dollars in Scotland while creating thousands of jobs”.

Donald Trump opened his controversial golf course on the Menie estate in Aberdeenshire in 2012, before purchasing the Turnberry golf resort in Ayrshire in 2014, into which the Trump Organisation claimed to have invested about £150m in the first two years.

An inquiry by the US’ House of Representatives into allegations about possible links between President Trump and Russia heard allegations that Turnberry may have been used for money laundering – a claim that Trump has always strongly denied.

MSP Harvie said that the House of Representatives had heard testimony which stated: “We saw patterns of buying and selling that we thought were suggestive of money laundering”, with particular concern expressed about Trump’s golf courses in Scotland and Ireland.

He added: “Trump’s known sources of income don’t explain where the money came from for these huge cash transactions.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon responded by saying that she did not want to give as statement without the full information.

Sturgeon’s spokesman later said that the decision on whether to apply for a unexplained wealth order is made on behalf of Scottish ministers by the Civil Recovery Unit, which reports to the lord advocate. He said the government had last year received a report from campaigners seeking an order, which it had passed to the Lord Advocate on that basis.

Justice Alito: Pandemic Has Brought 'Unimaginable Restrictions' On Freedoms

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito says the COVID-19 pandemic has brought "previously unimaginable restrictions on individual liberty," warning of an important shift in the views of essential rights on several fronts, from religious freedom to free speech.

Alito's remarks came Thursday in a keynote speech at the Federalist Society's annual National Lawyers Convention, which is being held virtually this week. The event's theme is to examine how the coronavirus is affecting the rule of law.

The COVID-19 crisis has "highlighted constitutional fault lines," Alito said.

He cautioned that his statements shouldn't be taken as a judgment on whether numerous coronavirus restrictions reflect good public policy.

"All that I'm saying is this, and I think it is an indisputable statement of fact," the justice said. "We have never before seen restrictions as severe, extensive and prolonged as those experienced for most of 2020."

"Think of all the live events that would otherwise be protected by the right to freedom of speech," from lectures and meetings to religious services, Alito said. He also noted that the pandemic has affected access to the courts and the constitutional right to a speedy trial.

"The COVID crisis has served as a sort of constitutional stress test," Alito said. "And in doing so, it has highlighted disturbing trends that were already present before the virus struck."

Hundreds of President Trump's supporters were out in Washington, D.C., on Saturday for a day of rallying to echo the false assertion that the presidential election was marked by fraud.



One week after Joe Biden's presidential victory brought about spontaneous celebrations in the nation's capital, a crowd that included the group Women for America First, right-wing activists and conspiracy theorists gathered in the city's downtown near the White House.

Members of the Proud Boys, a white-nationalist movement designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, were also seen out on the streets of Washington.

A rally and a march to insist that Trump rightfully won a second term were planned for the day. The events are going by several names, including the Million MAGA March, the March for Trump and Stop the Steal DC.

By late Saturday morning, hundreds had assembled in Freedom Plaza near the White House.



Video showed attendees waving American and Trump 2020 flags. Few could be seen wearing a mask, even as the U.S. on Friday announced a new daily record of 184,000 confirmed coronavirus cases.

At one point, the crowd was greeted by President Trump himself, who rode past demonstrators in his mortorcade shortly after 10 a.m. Trump, who has refused to concede the election to Biden, waved to supporters who held out signs reading "Best prez ever" and "Stop the steal."

Ahead of Saturday's events, police in Washington announced road closures and parking restrictions. A march to the Supreme Court was scheduled for 2 p.m. Counterprotests are also planned to take place.

I like to think that I watch and read lots of foreign news. Trump at different points called Covid Wuhan virus, kung flu and Chinese virus.

Even a Google news search now brings up no reference to Trump and Asian Virus.

Thiz court ruling iz in CA: a blue state. It likely won’t change the outcome of the US election. The CA electorate voted overwhelmingly for Biden.

But the issue iz similar to those in other swing states like PA.

California Governor Violated the Constitution With Mail Ballot Order: Judge

California Gov. Gavin Newsom exceeded his authority and violated the state Constitution with an executive order that let all Californians vote by mail if they wanted to.

Sutter County Superior Court Judge Sarah Heckman ruled Friday that the order, N-67-20, “improperly amended existing statutory law, exceeding the governor’s authority and violating the separation of powers.”

The order stated, citing the COVID-19 pandemic, that “all Californians who are registered to vote in” the Nov. 3 election “must be empowered to vote by mail, as an alternative to in-person voting.”

Newsom, a Democrat, argued that California’s government code gave him the power to issue orders like the one concerning mail ballots, but the judge was not convinced.

The legislative branch makes laws, Heckman said in the 9-page ruling, while the governor and the executive branch sees that laws are faithfully executed.

“The Governor may not exercise legislative powers unless permitted by the Constitution. Article V, Section 1 of the California Constitution does not grant the Governor the power to exercise those functions which have been given to the Legislature, absent the Legislature’s delegation of a portion of its legislative authority to such executive officials or entities through statutory enactments,” the judge ruled.
