allyuh, allyuh, why would anyone vote back UNC for Kamla to be the Prime Minister again? It's so obvious that the UNC going to lose the election 99% because Kamla still there.

The tradition in the UK is that once a PM has lost the GE, he/she steps down, takes whatever honours the Queen offers, and then fades away into the history books.

They HAD Vasant a smart respected guy who would have attracted other intelligent like minded people to the party. But Kamla prefers her brain dead sycophants due to loyalty.

Kamla is a royal deity in the eyes of many still, especially elderly east Indos. She is literally the best chance UNC has esp amongst grassroots supporters .

All dem other fellas go mash up the party with ruction and Vasant who was probably the best chance at pulling swing voters and not look like a total idiot every day get cuss way from Anil the UNC hitman.

Vasant is/was the best chance at a potential UNC leader.

They're called grass roots supporters.

Kamla enjoys deity status and
Rowley enjoys selassie like status

Well another election season is upon us and society is going to be subjected to the associated behaviors which are accommodated under the banned of democracy at work.
After having experienced many of these junctions in our country's evolution, a lot of what comes at these times have become difficult to endure.
Really, these times just seem to deliver injections of divisiveness , confusion, noise and vulgarity on an already fragile country.
The results always seems to be lingering bitterness, distrust, disunity and outright feelings of alienation.
The virtues of democracy for many purists seem to be lost as we just seem to descend into some like of acceptable anarchy.
Matters are made worse by the fact that there seem to be no global exemplars one can hold out as a standard to aspire to.
We just seem to be going down some 'rabbit hole' willingly, yet not recognizing the deeper we go the darker it gets.
Maybe this may be a major contributor to the levels of self destructive behavior our society and others are having to deal with daily.

It literally takes a party level coup for that to change.

But what does it change to?
Panday => Kamla
Manning => JUHN Scarfy
Ironically it was Panday himself who said it wasn't change, but exchange.

When you see it...

Dillon, Lewis throw hat into political arena

Image

SPORT personalities Mervyn Dillon and Brian Lewis have thrown their hats into the political arena.

Dillon, a fast bowler for West Indies from 1997-2005, is a nominee for the Toco/Sangre Grande seat for the PNM in the next general election, expected to be held this year.

Dillon’s contract as head coach of the TT Red Force team came to an end on April 30. Dillon was born in Toco and has a street named after him in the area.

Dillon, 45, declined comment when asked about his political aspirations on Saturday and said Newsday should call him this week.

Image

Lewis, who has been president of the TT Olympic Committee (TTOC) since 2013, is a nominee for Port of Spain South. Lewis, the president of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC), was secretary of the TTOC from 2005-2013.

Lewis grew up close to the area he is hoping to contest, having spent his childhood in Belmont.

He also chose not to comment on Saturday.

More and more losers....jeeze

This reminds me of Eddie Hart... for decades hey put him up for election then discard him as soon as they win. The PNM formula seems to put these "faces" there to get the votes then have the elite Sinnanan, Faris, Stewart type run the show.

Postby eliteauto » May 25th, 2020, 4:14 pm

FORMER police inspector Michael A Seales is the PNM candidate for Tabaquite, party PRO Laurel Lezama told Newsday on Monday.

Despite having been screened in a group of nominees for Couva North, whose incumbent UNC MP Ramona Ramdial vowed to "seal" his fate, Seales will instead vie for Tabaquite whose UNC MP Dr Surujrattan Rambachan is not standing for re-election.

The PNM screening committee has chosen Sharda Sataram for Couva North. Lezama also confirmed reports that Solange de Sousa will stand in Fyzabad, now held by the UNC's Dr Lackram Boddoe.

Lezama said the PNM will announce on Tuesday its candidates for Siparia, stronghold of Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, and Moruga/Tableland, for which former culture minister Winston "Gypsy" Peters was screened amid some constituency demonstrations in support of incumbent Dr Lovell Francis.

Lezama told Newsday the screening committee has confirmed the selection of seven incumbents screened last week, each as sole nominee, most notably the Prime Minister. These were Dr Keith Rowley for Diego Martin West, Colm Imbert for Diego Martin North East, Adrian Leonce for Laventille East/Morvant, Fitzgerald Hinds for Laventille West, Terrence Deyalsingh for St Joseph, Camille Robinson-Regis for Arouca/Maloney, and Faris Al-Rawi for San Fernando West. Further screenings are expected to be done on Tuesday, Lezama said.

No, not based only on that *cough Brian Manning cough* the fellow fuener does posses a solid background, enough to stand on her own, her paternal relations can only help to bolster her chances and possibly provide guidance and advice going forward. I wish her the best if selected

I didn't mean to imply that I had anyone particularly in mind other than capable, qualified individuals with a history suited for the job. What exactly would make me want to vote for "jump an wave", "howzaaat?" or "yuh duno who I is oar"?

It just strikes me as being so gimmicky, as if no one is taking any of it seriously. Maybe the parties offering these candidates know fully well what they're doing, but the people who have to vote - how could you take your party serious if that's the best they have to offer? But then again, the candidate don't matter to them right? It's a simple matter of red or yellow poison.

What will happen is that people would vote for representatives who will never be given a decision making position. It should be illegal to appoint a senator and make them a minister. Only someone who people vote for should sit in parliament.

There was a converse school of thought, it was either a party idea (PNM or UNC) or someone else who was looking at electoral/constitutional reform but I'm not finding it atm, anyway the idea was that MP's NOT be appointed as Ministers but instead focus solely of representing their constituents, Senators would be paid better so that they could devote themselves solely to politics and Ministers would be appointed for that pool

That's a dangerous construct... We will end up with double the politician cesspool to have to pay taxpayers money to... In addition the faces you vote for will only appear every 5 years and serve no purpose other than convenient mouthpieces and opportunistic ribbon cutters
