Re: The plan for opening back up after Covid lockdown

Here are the highlights from today’s media conference.

The Stay at Home Order has been extended to May 15th, 2020.

Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley said the extension has become necessary to allow health officials to expand testing. Dr Rowley said based on the results from the increased surveillance tests, an announcement will be made by May 10th, 2020 to determine whether Trinidad and Tobago is in a position to relax restrictions.

From Monday 27th April, there will be an increase in COVID-19 testing, with up to 50 Surveillance Tests per day. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Roshan Parasram confirmed that the increased testing capacity is necessary to determine whether there is COVID-19 community spread in Trinidad and Tobago. The Ministry of Health is expected to complete up to 700 tests.

Trinidad and Tobago’s borders will remain closed until May 15. Schools are also to remain closed during this period.

Dr Rowley has urged members of the public to stay at home, continue with good hygiene, and practice physical distancing.

The updated regulations will relax the current restriction on hardware stores which will now be allowed to open for half-day from Monday to Saturday.

Financial support and care packages will be sent to UWI Students on campuses where the Government has liabilities and responsibilities.

An appeal has been made to landlords, particularly those who have tenants who have lost their jobs or had their income reduced to have a heart and be lenient during this time. Prime Minister Rowley reminded landlords that under the laws of Trinidad and Tobago one month’s notice is required to evict a tenant.

Prime Minister Rowley said the relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados continues to be as good as it has ever been and both countries remain close. Dr Rowley says a difference of opinion on a matter is not a fallout.

Here's the press conference (April 25) where they announced the surveillance testing and lockdown extension (till May 15 officially). The stated goal at that time was 700 tests done in 14 days (which would have been May 9), with the would tell the CMO if the virus is "extremely limited" by May 10.

the part around the 32:45 mark is what many of us are interpreting as a 10 May date for easing restrictions.

Who is running/verifying these samples?

The MoH has their own PCR testing now. Their testing had initial 'quality assurance' by running identical samples with them and CARPHA to check if they had the same results.

They are sending 10% of all negative samples and 100% of any positive samples to CARPHA for re-verification.

Makes sense for a limited opening. All food places too with no dining-in. Once the social distancing discipline rules are in place.

But yuh done know how the KFC crowd will be like. Social distancing like before they get lock down. When last i eat KFC boy, maybe more than a year and a half. Definitely eh feeling to rile up with that stink sweaty pushy crowd to get a box either.

Oh yesss!

Cant wait for KFC to reopen to bull allyuh with some increased prices.

1% always wins and i love them.

I really cannot wait to be amused by the behavior of you animalistic Trinis at the KFC outlets. The 1% should cut cost by selling the smallest pieces of chicken at jacked up prices just to stretch allyuh to the limit.

Enjoy.

Prestige Holdings responds to video: KFC not opening

Christian Mouttet, chairman of Prestige Holdings Ltd, the local franchise holders of KFC, has cleared the air over a video circulating on social media that showed an Arawak chicken truck making a delivery to a KFC outlet.

Mouttet said the video was not an indication that the fast-food chain was reopening.

Speaking with Newsday on Friday, Mouttet said while the truck was delivering chicken, it was not intended for sale. Instead, the chicken was to be used to make up hampers for Prestige Holdings staff.

He said the decision to provide food hampers for staff was made earlier this week to provide assistance for workers in need.

"Our foundation, the Victor and Sally Mouttet Foundation, was making a contribution. Part of that is $3 million to be used to provide food for the less fortunate. Part of that is that we would provide food hampers to the hourly-paid workers of Prestige Holdings.

"Today we packed 2,700 hampers for our hourly paid workers and those hampers would be collected at some of our stores tomorrow (Saturday). We are also providing fresh, uncooked chicken as part of the hampers. It doesn't mean any phased opening is under way."

Mouttet said he did not know when stay-at-home restrictions would be relaxed.

There has been speculation that the restrictions will be lifted soon. The Prime Minister had said last month that they would be extended to May 15 but would be reviewed on May 10.

President of the Downtown Owners and Merchants Association, Gregory Aboud, believes the economic impact of COVID-19 will be known over the long term and not necessarily in the immediate future.

Look, i not defending the 1% and whatever, but it kind of clear that they're making hampers for the workers in each restaurant outlet owned by PHL. And if anyone with more than 6 brain cells sat and thought about the logistics of this, nothing would seem to be a big conspiracy to the people who love to play political games.

At least they feeding people, their own workers. Dafuck the complainers doing but skinning dey ass on facebook? The same people who going to line up May 16th in all the KFC and cyak after?
