Is this a good indication on fuel quality in the vehicle?IMG_20200229_125716142.jpeg

Best treatment for algae is to run the tank low.

I cant do that, my fuel guage stop working
carluva wrote:Also seeing on diesel kleen website that they have a water treatment and a microbial treatment. Anyone ever used any of those?

Fuel polishing can restore diesel to its original quality getting rid of algae and water. It's very expensive though. The

international diesel price was almost five times the cost of local with subsidy , so its viable if you are a foreigner and

paying the international price. Trinidad tank and Fuel was the company who use to do it.

I had a problem with algae in diesel and was given a quote to do fuel polishing. Almost $8000 to do 450 gals. I ended

up siphoning it out with a small water pump and filled it in IBC containers . I used a shop vac to clean out the tanks,

wiped it dry and refilled.

You did the right thing. It is a pain to drain and dry your fuel tank but it is probably worth the time if you have an older vehicle, have stored fuel in your tank for a long periid or you believe that your fuel is of questionable quality. There are fuel tank additives that many use but then you have to burn that fuel and debris.

The algae occurs because of water "settling out" in the vehicle tank. All petroleum fuels have emulsified water in them. The water helps to reduce tailpipe pollutants. Before the widespread use of polyethylene tanks, this water that settled at the bottom of the tanks was often the cause of tank perforation.

You will see it more with high temperature fluctuations and fuel that is stored for relatively long periods of time.

Just buy Toyota and solve all your problems you won't need to worry about endangering anything

The Hilux group on Facebook says otherwise but sip your Kool-Aid slowly, man. With ice.

I sold my van in August 2019.

When we switched to imported diesel (a bit after the closure of petrotrin), I took a visual sample in a plastic bottle, much to the chagrin of the gas station owner. The fuel was almost like water. Super clean.

My van actually ran smoother and smoked less up until I sold it. It was an older van, a.2007 sportero, direct injection turbo.

I had agressive maintenance sched on it from the time I got it (2nd hand).

I dunno if something happened around December 2019, because there was a flurry of complaints related to fuel.

Anyone tested a pump sample, rather than a vehicle sample?

Last time it was pumped was about 1500-2000 km ago. Vehicle doing about 93000km right now.

I believe there was a noticeable improvement. One thing was for sure, the van had a bit more pep and honestly, while I was cruising at 120kmph it felt like cruising at 100kmph earlier this week (Noisewise and yearning to go) l. So I'd definitely say that there was a boost from an increase in Cetane number cause the van felt much more eager to go and there was a better throttle response.

As for the other benefits, smoother idling, less noxious smoke etc, I'll have to evaluate that after a few weeks of using the treatments as these may take time to work through the system and perform whatever cleaning that they purported to do.

I don't know if it's mind over matter or placebo effect, but it did feel as though the engine was smoother while coasting and not as noisy at the same time. I want to believe it's just my imagination but it the unlikely event it's not, do these treatments really show improvements so quickly? I know pariaman said his sorted out almost immediately after using one when he got some bad smoke.

I saw Unipet has a treatment too. It's $16 and claims to do the same thing as most of them. Dunno how it works.
