This is exactly, almost word for word, what a Std. 5 teacher told me today!

SEA is Std 4.
Std 5 is just to do past papers and revise. The exam is at the end of March - they don't get the whole of Std 5.
Lessons starts from 3rd term in Std 3.

There lies the crux of the story. This is really, really hard for him and his parents. Doubly so now for his parents. To lose one child is bad enough but to lose two ....

^^^ exactly. We need to be careful with headlines that rile you up the wrong way.

This is unimaginably sad for everyone directly involved though, and for us in the wider society.
All kinda things could've been going through that child's mind, like why his brother and not him, or confusion over the grief of his brother and the sadness with his parents, and feeling that this parents maybe loved the other brother more.. I'm no psychologist, but i should think the Children's Authority should look into sibling mental health when traumas like murder happens. (Maybe they do, I don't know).

I have no more information to give. The case is dealing with a minor.
And the news reported it as if it's a trivial nonsense incident and the 11 year old child was too spoiled so he kill himself over a TV argument. You all can't see how much immense pain a child would have to be going through to do this?

And over the past few years these incidents are not isolated. There has been a dramatic increase in child suicides in this country. Another one last year with a 11 year old girl "argument over tv remote." as reported by the news media. That's all they and the Facebook commentators care about right. Trivialize these incidents and move on. The leaders have forsaken the population! Just recently the resident government clown stand up in Parliament and blamed the opposition once again for the state of the country "the country is now reaping the fruits of what that government sowed."

So many murders, suicides, serious increase in violence in relationships, hopelessness. No real discussion, no real plans, no state intervention or programmes to address this alarming situation, nothing.

Look just one search. There have been dozens of cases.

When the child is dead ,you still have to protect the minor’s identity ? I don’t think so.

Funny how it drawing close to SEA time, and an 11 year old commits suicide.

Very interesting and completely unrelated, obviously.

media: sea exams is not the be-all/end-all of things, you can still be successful even if you don't pass for your 1st choice.

also media: girls top boys again in sea exams, boys need to do better. let's make them feel like they didn't do good enough anytime a girl tops them in exams. :drinking:

Our society is not ready to come to terms that children can be under stress, and that abuse does not necessarily have to be physical or sexual.

The mentality of "stress is a big people thing, what you know about stress?" is having fatal effects on the youth, especially with the academic pressure being put on children in the last few decades, and the pressure to excel consistently over 17+ years of formal schooling.

Doing away with SEA wont fix the problem. Whatever comes in its place will end up the same way.
