Police say one man is dead and two people, including an 18-year-old woman, were wounded in downtown Port of Spain when gunmen opened fire on people walking along Queen Street on Wednesday afternoon. Three men of Picton Road, Laventille have been held after a shootout with police.

In a statement, the police service said the incident started at around 2.25 pm. Video footage circulating on social media show two men getting out of the back seat of a white car and running behind their intended target/s. They had automatic rifles and fired several shots before getting back into the car which sped off.

When police arrived they found people with gunshot wounds. The victims were taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital. One has since died.

Moments later, a car matching the description of the one used by the gunmen was spotted near the Spree Simon Building, Eastern Main Road, Laventille. Police said the occupants shot and them and they returned fire but the men managed to escape and were chased. No police officers were hurt.

The car with the gunmen then drove off. A report was made to the police who responded and found three persons suffering from gunshot injuries
Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, but its occupants opened fire on them. Officers fired on the suspects but they ran into the hills of Laventille, one of then carrying an automatic rifle.

The gang warfare situation really out of control now.
Also it is likely that they were moving the 2 doctors up north to hold for ransom in some house in Sea Lots, or up in the Hill. Add that shooting to the one the last day on 2019 where they were randomly shooting up maxis and another innocent was killed. You think it will stop here? Every week it will get worse. Next week might be you getting shot and bleeding out like a goat carcass while walking down Frederick St.

Why the authorities don't declare a localized SOE with curfew for that area don't send the Army to lock down the area and do a systematic search for weapons in every single one of those houses and shacks. Easy solution you know. They will find 80% of all these automatic military rifles and weapons for heavy warfare. Then let the Coast Guard take the culprits and throw them out 50 km at sea in the Gulf and call that justice. Sound like a good plan right where no clean people will be wrongly caught? Why innocent people will be in possession of illegal arms and ammunition?

But you know what weird? Read the Facebook and Guardian comments on the doctors kidnapping and murder. The PNM bloggers are there as well. It's sick and unbelievable.
