DooMRR wrote:That's not normal unless your engine is cold. There are many reasons I hear stuff like that could happen. Try cleaning your injectors. Try using Liqui Moly Pro-Line Diesel System Reiniger to give your injectors a good cleaning.
It is a bit expensive ($600) for a tin. I'm not sure exactly how it was done, but the person who introduced me to it (James Mosely - The guy who sells off-road parts (Ironman and others)) ran it directly into my engine bypassing the fuel tank, not having to mix it with the diesel. I regret I didn't pay attention to what he did, but right after he did it, I got a noticable increase in power. I could suggest you pour it into you tank when you have quarter or less of diesel. This way it runs through your system longer and still concentrated enough to give a good cleaning. After you can use normal diesel treatments once in a while to help keep the injectors clean.
Some people tell me when their air filter is dirty, it causes their van to smoke a bit too. Try changing your air filter (or if you want, do like me and shake it around in some water with breeze (the cleaner) and then put it to spin dry in your washing machine). Surprisingly, it doesn't destroy the filter at all.
Did you change your timing belt by chance? Bad timing can also cause the vehicle to smoke. But in your case where you only smoke under stress (climbing a hill), so it may not be this reason.
Try changing the location where you full up on diesel as well. I suggest a new or newish gas station where the fuel tanks are in good condition. Bad quality of diesel can be another cause.
apark50 wrote:The Liqui Moly Pro-line Diesel System Reiniger is actually designed to be poured in the fuel tank, to clean the Fuel System.
But the product you refer to is the Diesel Purge from Liqui Moly, which you can run your diesel engine on for about 25 min to clean the Fuel System (Injectors, valves, piston heads..) This should be done by a mechanic preferably. For common rail diesel engines, you must use a machine to build up adequate pressure to feed the engine with the Diesel Purge. For diesel engines with out common rail, you may simply let the fuel pump suck in the Diesel Purge. In both cases, the return fuel must go back in to the feeding canister / machine to ensure continuous circulation.

I have a 2008 Ranger (2.5L Manual 4x4 XLT Hurricane) and I'm considering purchasing a 2010 Ranger (3.0L Automatic 4x4 XLT) with really low mileage. We talking just about 20,000km.
There's no way I'm forking out 345k for the all new 2012 Thunder, despite its awesomeness but I'm prioritizing, so I'll be more than content with the 2010 Auto 3L. What do you guys think?
Anyone have any issues with the 2010 3L Auto's? Also should I go this way, my 08 Hurricane XLT will be for sale.
I appreciate the suggestions.
