Radiator/overheating issue

Postby redmanjp » May 25th, 2021, 11:01 am

Anyone know of a mechanic or garage in Port of Spain?

I came to work this morning and just before parking noticed the temp gauge needle going past 3/4 way up and the AC stop cooling. also the past 2 weeks there was an occasional squealing noise whenever i put on the AC so I'm assuming a belt needs to change.

i couldn't reach the garage where this guy was (maraval) due to overheating risk so went laughlin and de gannes

turns out car was very low on coolant. the guy used 3/4 of a bottle i had, started the engine, let it idle for a few mins, switch off and let it cool. we checked the level again and had to add more coolant.

it's a new radiator 3 months old with new coolant and new cap. so far we haven't seen any leaks so i don't know why it drinking coolant so fast.

you are losing it somewhere. you need to determine where.

*Gasp* a car related post on tuner?

Agreed with wagonrunner. Leaks could be external (pinhole leak on hose) or internal (head gasket)
Do a radiator pressure test to see if you can spot the external leak.
Might need to do a compression test / leak down test to see if the HG compromised.

1. Was the thermostat also replaced? Park the vehicle in a dry area and observe the floor for leaks. Don't confuse the ac evaporator drain line for a leak.

2. Check to see if you are getting any leaks inside by the driver or passenger floor.

3. If do do have a wet floor mat it could be the heater coil so you can try bypassing it to rule it out.

4. Check the condition of your transmission oil to see if it looks abnormal... Strawberry milkshake colour is cause for concern.

5. Do a coolant leak test to rule out cylinder head/gasket issues.

Also check the oil level - Change oil regular .
