Local 2012 VW Jetta

Postby vw » March 12th, 2016, 1:21 pm

Vehicle maintained by Best Auto (Massy) vehicles engine developed a "miss" after the last service now Massy wants $25,000 to rebuild the engine. Checked some forums and found this particular year and model of vehicle has an "aggressive" software program from the factory which results in a rebuild like this after a few years despite all maintainence being performed.
My concern is for others who may own the same year and model of vehicle, have they experienced this issue with their car?
Also, what avenues do I have to address a known issue such as this with Massy.
Your advice is appreciated.

Software leads to a misfire which leads to a rebuild? Isn't that grounds for a recall?

well sir from what i gathered i have 3 customers who had to rebuild cause the pistons were beginning to degrade. my take on it is the the engine is leaning out due to the super turbocharge. its not that massy or vw doesn't know but once it starts to give those symptoms they rebuild. Massy and best auto had so much problems with those that they even contracted out rebuild to external garage. So yes its either rebuild or new engine. The rebuild kits from what i have seen are different to the ones actually in the engine in terms of seals and piston quality.
