Homemade gas grill

Anybody ever built their own?

Need one for some fundraising events in November and December.

Grill tubes, old stove parts and a barrel.

Should be able to handle 8 to 10 birds in one cooking.

Looking for some advice/inspiration on how to do one.

why not try borrow/rent one? save some time and effort and maximize the fundraising effort

The only ones I getting is the ones that using coals.

When I make this one, it will be there for all the other fund raisers (charitable) that we does get involve in.

Guessing you could take 3 metal tubes, join them together so they parallel. Then drill one setta holes

Mash up a old stove to get the parts to regulate air and such

I looked up this before and didn't bother, it is dangerous

it not so simple, I the holes have to be a certain size and the air breather etc
otherwise there will be oxygen shortage and fire might out and when lit back kaboom

a good example is those chinese ring burners, they are highly inefficient with the air intake by the controls yet I have seen different types with serious blue flame coming out using the same amount of gas.

I looked it up to, and you are right, the key is to get the air/fuel right.

I end up buying some SS tubes on amazon with the air registers on them and I plan to use some old stove jets to supply. I will use compress air to ensure that I getting a vacuum first before first light. Should get them in this week.

I looked at doing the ones with the pipe burners, and they seem to be the simplest to do, but to get the air registers was very expensive (50USD for one) and I would not get it in time. The Chinese place in south has something like it but missing the major parts.

You know the smoker that Pricemart had a few months ago, the round vertical one? Look at the burner on it and you would see the type of register I talking about.
I plan to use a 55gal drum with six tubes. I bought some fine bits to drill out the stove jets to get the right amount of fuel to the tubes.

I have two SS grill that Pricesmart had and will be taking the measurement from those jets to start with.

If you can make up a rig to fit the regular 5gal drumswould be great
So when the drum rottens out you just transfer to another.

If it come out good, the next improvement would be to use some 22gauge galvanize sheet and make a good enclosure.

Know where I could get some cast iron grill for it or expanded sheet metal for it?

Bhagwansinghs sells expanded metal 4x8 though
Might be easier to get somebdy to weld up a grate from scratch

Looked into it years ago but too risky. You can buy the parts off charbroil site but in the end it just worked out cheaper to buy a proper gas grill

Joker call me .. I might have a grill that will take years of abuse and never rotten .

Got the grill tubes today and tried it out with the orifice from the old stoves that I picked up at the side of the road, It working great, now to figure out how to build the manifold and decide what valves to use.

The sch 40 steel pipes should work .. Pvf in marabella sells by the foot
