For me its a combination of the two...or at least a balance between the two.

If its toots quality I wont pay a high price. If there is additional value to be gained by paying more then I will tend to do so.

The answer to this question would be significantly impacted by the financial capacity of the buyer.
What would also cause another complexity is relative importance of the good or service in the overall consumption matrix of the individual customer.
Customers when buying clips where the cheap one is 2 cents and the expensive high quality is 8 cents will gravitate to the high quality, but when we talking big numbers the orientation changes.

all businesses hadda make a profit to be viable, but at least make it a reasonable profit margin while at the same time selling quality goods & nobody will complain about yuh prices or quality, or dismiss yuh business as being run by a dollar-demon
