Postby Phatom5000 » August 4th, 2014, 9:22 am

Good morning,
I need some guidance on getting a child on receiving disability grant.
Any one knows the process?
The doctor already filled out the form, just not sure where to go if chaguanas, tried calling but No answers.

Thanks.

i was a welfare officer so take my advise.

You must be the parent or legal guardian. Child must be under 18.Child must be 100% disabled as stated on medical report. You must full out the disability grant form which you would get from the welfare office. they will ask for your a NIS form which u would get at the office and an EX-employer form. also walk with birth cert, yours and child to show relationship, your ID, any supporting documents like clinic cards, medical reports from hospital etc. every day is assigned to a different area in the welfare office. find out which day u have to go to see your officer. it is recommended as that officer will be the one who will come home to check you and the child. however you can go any day to make the application,, the welfare officer on duty MUST take your application. do not let them say come back on another day. there are some lazy a$$ officers who wish to do nothing whole day and it is your right that your application be accepted on any day by any officer. take the officer's name just in case.

Tell me how it goes

nothing special......just a technical requirement. on the form is either a yes and no answer so no 99%... either yes and no...if is yes, you might get through...if is no then you not getting through until it change into a yes

Child over 18 is not a child as they would be considered adults..as a result it will be considered Disability grant...under 18 is considered Special Child Grant...if a child turns 18 the Special Child Grant will automatically turn into a Disability Grant.

each case is based on its own merit. it takes into account the financial needs of the child as well as the child's well being. it depends on how and if your officer argued the case at local board meetings..that is if you had appealed the decision.....

didn't appeal...staff at chaguanas was very unfriendly....my wife quit her job to take care of my son, didn't qualify for any assistance either...we just shrug it off and doing what we can

Sorry I wasn't there at the time. You could try again if you like. Sorry to hear about your bad experiences. Not all the officers are rude.....

Hey, thanks a lot for your reply.
I visited the chaguanas branch and got the forms. My daughter is 80 percent.
But can not take of her self. My wife also stop working to take care of her.

Doctors may put 80% and 90% if they think the patient has a chance of recovery to being better....so i heard from a doc when i raised that question years back... but honestly i think its unreasonable of them to do that...after all its a child ...and only the parents know how hard it is at the end of the day...they will never know what it is like until something like that reaches in their home....
