I like the single high output alt idea as well.
I never researched the topic, but I believe you can parallel alternators. The ideal setup for parallel alts is to treat them as a single big alt and wire then to power / charge everything together. Splitting them up with only reduce performance..
Thinking about it, two OEM 90A alts paralleled should outlast a single high output similarly rated (i.e. 180A) alternator. Simply because the load is charged between two alts, so you get more cooling / better heat dissipation etc..
Research the wiring for them before continuing further..
