Maracas?

They were ahead in the gulf but it seemed that Fury passed them as they went past Carrera. That's as far as I could see from home.

now come bac from d bocas, real good to see them up close and early before everybody shut down :? It was real close in m class at that point
This year m class pass most other boats before d bocas so it kinda climax early instead of seeing the whole field then the big guns. Guess is a product of d current start format.
Had a real good coast guard presence too.
Coast guard helicopter steal the show though, the pilot make a real low and sharp 180, i thought he was gonna lose lift

saw Solo, Monster and Fury neck and neck coming out of first Boca...30sec after Solo stopped with smoke coming out of one of his intakes...i was in the patrol boat that responded first and started towing them...sorry folks didn get any good shots this yr but it was a sight to see those 3 battling side by side...rensh was right there in another boat so i'm sure he got some great shots! :)

Not that the owners pockets mind , but to prep a boat and spend more that a few grand USdm , and not make it out past the first Boca , hum mm throttle man , l mechanic , engine builder wherever they're from , who is the the culprit ?

Cz4a and I were limin' in the bocas when the big 3 came through together. It really was quite a sight to see them running so close together at I would say about 95-100mph. Straight out of key west! Monster positively dwarfed Mr. Solo in size. It really is a very big boat!

Stampede also cane through at full pelt. That boat was runnin'. Really dialed in

Definitely Agree but the SAUTT S76 and Police BO-105(helicopters) pegged right above them really completed the picture! I couldn't get a full shot of all 5 machines as too many boats were blocking. I'll post what I got a bit later.

SHASTRI BOODAN

A pirogue tows the vessel, Miss Trinidad, back to shore. Miss Trinidad sank in the waters off the port at Scarborough yesterday. PHOTO: SHASTRI BOODAN Yesterday’s 2011 Carib Great Race was one of the most eventful in years and it was not without mishap. One boat capsized in the waters off Scarborough; perennial race favourite Mr Solo developed engine troubles; and T&T’s all-female crewed vessel performed creditably. The crew of Miss Trinidad escaped injury when their boat flipped in the waters just off Scarborough. The three-man crew that included driver Clint Chew, and brothers Richard and Junior Phillips, crossed the finish line buoy around 9.50 am. However, when the boat turned to make the second loop at Scarborough to complete the race, the craft flipped and started sinking with its engine end in the water.

From as early as 6 am, thousands of spectators flocked to Scarborough to view the end of the race with people taking up vantage positions from the port, along the Esplanade and the Milford Road corner. The crew was rescued by Coast Guard and taken to the Scarborough General Hospital for treatment. Alfred Bell, secretary of the TT Powerboat Racing Association, said the driver of Miss Trinidad experienced problems with the steering that gave way on the turn causing him to lose control of the craft. Bell said the waves created by the TT Spirit, the fast ferry that left moments before Miss Trinidad arrived, did not contribute to the mishap. The boat was pulled to the harbour by a pleasure craft.

Coast Guard divers had to tie a hoist from the engine end of the boat under the water and the boat was then lifted out with a crane and placed on to a trailer that left the port around 12.47 pm. Mr Solo and Monster experienced mechanical failures and did not finish the race. Guy Costa, driver of Fire One said he was elated to finish and win the Great Race for the first time in the 11 years he had been competing. He said the course was grueling and unforgiving allowing no room for mistakes. Costa said he passed Monster in the water.

The all-female crew of Candyman finished the race in one piece. The crew of Candyman Marissa Budhu, driver, Chanelle Boon, navigator and Francesca Corriea, throttleman, said they were elated to be the first female crew to finish the race. Budhu said safety was paramount as she and fellow crewmates braved the waves. Corriea said the weather held up excellent for the event. Bell said, “This was a great day of racing and even with mishaps safely managed, today experienced fantastic spectatorship. This is what racing is all about.”

Fire One captures an incident-filled Great Race
By WALTER ALIBEY Saturday, August 27 2011

click on pic to zoom inPOWERING OFF: Alien leads three other powerboats across the waters just off the Hyatt Regency hotel in Port-of-Spain yesterday, during the start of th...« prev photo next photo »FIRE ONE, sponsored by Gulf Insurance was crowned winner of the 2011 Carib International Great Race from Trinidad to sister isle of Tobago yesterday.

They earned the top spot overall as well as victory in the M-Class in an incident-filled race which saw Miss Trinidad sink on the final circuit in Scarborough and M-Class favourites Mr Solo and Team Monster failing to complete the course because of mechanical problems.

Newsday understand that Miss Trinidad attempted to negotiate a turn on the final circuit in Scarborough when his steering wheel blew out. The crew of throttleman Richard Phillips, driver Junior Phillips and navigator Clint Chew was immediately taken to the nearby Scarborough Hospital with minor injuries, before being discharged.

The boat was later brought ashore and water pumped out by race officials.

Meanwhile, the mouth-watering showdown between multiple times winner Mr Solo and newcomer Monster never materialised, as both broke boats down.

Mr Solo, which failed to complete the race last year because of mechanical problems, failed to make it out of the Bocas again, stymied by the chopy waters.

It is understood the 39-foot catamaran with Ken Charles at the helm along with regulars Gino Fusco, navigator and throttleman Daren Marshall had a minor fire on board.

Yesterday, Marshall said, “Everything had been going well when we were on the way to the North Coast. We lost one of our engines and there was a flame that confirmed the end of our race.”

Marshall explained that while they could not say from where the problem emanated, he could only assume that it would have been because of the tight final week of putting their boat together.

He said, “It is always disappointing when you cannot finish the great race but we will have to investigate where the problem came from and deal with it for the following year.”

First-timer Peter Peake-own 46-foot catamaran Team Monster appeared to be well poised to take the race by storm before mechanical problems brought a premature end to their race. Yesterday they could not be contacted for comments. Fire One completed the trek from Trinidad to Tobago in a just over an hour. Officials were unable to give the exact time for the finish because they were distracted by the crash of Miss Trinidad.

C-Class favourite Stampede claimed the runner-up position overall while Gulf Dragon was third. Gulf Dragon, a seasoned campaigner in the event, was winner in the B-Class, getting the better of defending champions overall, Heatwave. Hero Two crossed the finish line first among the P-Class boats while Extreme Measures took the top prize for boats in the 60-miles-an-hour category.

This is what I got (posted the heli pics in the Chopper Ched Chat thread already)
I wish I got a shot of the Big 3 coming through the boca being chased by the S76 and Bo105 helis, but too many boats were blocking and by the time they got in clear view there were significant gaps between them!
