Idle problems

Postby dreadburns » October 20th, 2008, 4:07 pm

i have a Corolla AE 101 and my car idles @ 200rpm. I cleaned my intake filter and my injectors but still the same problem. What can be causing this problem? When AC is on the rpm still is very low and the car feels like its losing power.

 ...200 rpm? I'd expect the engine to stutter and cut off before idling at that speed. First thing is to make sure that your tachometer is functioning correctly.

Is it constantly low? Or does it vary? Could be a vacuum leak/IACV problem.

cant be 200, car cant be moving with that, have you tried adjusting your idle as the car gets older i adjust the idle to compensate for the loss in power, did it recently after i replaced my maf sensor in the almera

was lookin for the idle screw and cant find one. The mechanic told me that the model does not have one and we need to take out the idle valve and service it

200 way too low
if it was the TB the idle would vary
service the idle valve like the mech said

I cleaned the trottle body and the car is running a little better. I found the idle screw but what is the optimum idle speed that a car should run at? Another problem is that once I put it in drive the rpm drop to bout 400 is that normal?

The optimum idle speed should be anywhere between 700-900 rpm...When you put in drive the RPM would drop off because load is now on the engine.

Do a diagnostic on your car

be careful what u spray in the engine, some of those carburetor sprays like to kill sensors. when u go to buy the cleaner product, make sure and ask the people about it.

Well i cleaned what needed to be cleaned and was still getting the same problem in a small scale. I decided to change the check valve on the tappit cover and that sorted out the problem for now. There is another valve comin off the trottle body and i think it going to the vaccum control box is it suppose to be check valve or a two way valve?
