Question on EVO 7- 9

Postby QG » July 31st, 2008, 11:22 am

I know that the evo9 ecu allows the turbochargers to pump 19.5psi up to 3500rpm and 16psi till redline.
Is this trait on the EVO 7 and 8 as well?
Serious answers please.

Next question: On the Evo 9 MR, the Mivec turbo engine only uses Timing and Duration...not Lift!
Is it possible in Trinidad to activate or apply Valve Lift on these motors?

Boost will vary based on the model itself (GSR,RS,MR) but it's pretty much in the range you mentioned. You can confirm this by comparing the rom identifiers for different JDM model evos through the years you can see slight variances in the boost portions of the maps.

The wastegate duty cycle, boost error correction and boost limit on the 7-9 models in specific vary across the board and even more on special type cars like the GT and ralliart models.

The variation isn't anything extreme...you sit in an evo 8 and they way it builds boost is very similar to a 7...it's just a matter of modified maps to complement the variation in the turbochargers over the years...make use of the better hotside design for better low end torque.

Mivec modulates timing and lift, not duration. On the evo IX's you can modify the mivec mapping. Unfortunately, the values of the map itself is not fully understood as it pertains to lift and timing, but people have had success running the IX RS mivec map (and modified version thereof) on GSR and MR models with dyno proven gains and only a slightly higher (200rpm) idle. That said, you can modify the mivec mapping by reflashing the ecu.

Check out my sig if you'd like to learn more about reflashing an evo.
