Postby daymean » June 28th, 2008, 10:25 pm

fellaz which allyah think is better to reduce knock...knock due to high intake temperatures.....upgraded intercooler or water injection....

water injection is by far the most effective way for reducing detonation....very very effective .....there are alot of sites with DIY info as well as ppl selling kits.....for a turbo application u will introduce the water (or water/ meth) after the turbo under pressure so it will atomize in the airflow.....some ppl inject it into the turbo and let the turbo do the atomizing but this will damage ure compressor blades after time due to the minerals in the water...

but wouldn't an upgraded intercooler be a better long term solution...

I always wonder why people dont use water injection instead of intercooler .

Intercooler system kills some off the boost, and its bulky with all that pipe work.

with the water injection you could also add a little alcohol with it , the only problem is that you may need to add water every day, in a country like ours .

with the bigger IC u will lower velocity and make more of a lag effect esp with higher boosted cars

with the WI u can keep a moderate size IC and still lower temps and keep the boost charge flowing quickly

heat travels in one direction only and that is from a warm, high temperature area to a lower temperature area, and that we don’t “make coldâ€

Yeah, but it has only so much of an effect. There's only so big of an intercooler you can mount behind an Evo front bumper....and even that might not solve the knock problem completely, while it can affect turbo spool up and whatnot (based on increased pressure drop across the i/c).

Water injection can harness the power of your engine by making the fuel/air mixture ion your combustion chamber "act" like one of higher RON. You'll have alot more flexibility.

Of course...you can always tune your ECu for local gas w/o losing hp. Check with R. Mutt or Sanctifier for details on that.

ok so it seems that the water injection is the way to go...
however i have heard from some ppl. that the injection of the water/meth injection can be harmful when used in a stock evo engine....for this reason i was thinking of using the injection to just spray water....no methanol...what is the deal with this...??
thanks for all the info so far!

note if knock if the poblem you are having at stock boost levels you should fine out why...
and and if it because of increased boost, then have the motor tuned...
you should not fix knock with a *add on*. eg my motor is knocking in high boost... ok buy a water meth. or bigger intercooler...

if you understand where i am coming from...
i am not saying that they don't help...
you ecu is ur best friend...

Exactly what I was saying. It's best to fix the problem with the ECU first. And if your problem is slight knock /typical knock issues on local pump gas....get it tuned!!!!!! You'll get rid of that problem, and you won't have to keep adding water every 2-3 days (not knocking WMI here folks).

Add the WMI after for more power if you want.

ok i hear what u guys saying but i getting like 6 counts of knock most... i know that i can pull timing to help reduce the knock...the boost is stock for the car...so i thinking of using the water injection...

I think water injection is great technology , we just need to fine tune some more ,before we get rid of this big a$$ inter cooler thingy.

I think the only reason why manufacture don't use it is the maintenance involved ,
who wants to add water every two or three days .

Yes, WMI can go on a N/A engine.
