Requests for training Sessions at BYCCs

Postby sirbill » April 18th, 2007, 4:59 pm

Take me to your leader! 0X

Guys, I am getting some interest from ppl to have driver training at a BYCC, such as using ABS effectively, managing skids etc.

Any chance we can put together a car control BYCC?

I'm not the leader - and dont shoot the messenger!

I might have a contact for someone who is certified in this kind of training who may be willing to get involved - will talk to him and report back here.

sirbill,
brilliant suggestion.
it was raised before, and sht down by then exec & some members.
i would like to practice certain turns / maneuvers, in a technical / easily evaluated manner.

but i think the constraint to this would be between a dex / bycc event as opposed to in replace to..........

also, its when else would we have use of an area for it. granted that we wont need as much area to practice maneuvers.

I myself would like the idea. If ever I get into a ticklish situation I'd know how to get out of it as calmly as ever

i always hoped that solodex had more bycc, and have real training sessions, so that guys can "learn" to drive...
as crazybalhead, said experience is what has most of us where we are, but having someone teach you will move things alot faster...

We could always have it in conjunction with a BYCC. The "competition" part of a BYCC can take place after lunch, and in the morning the training part.

We did do something like this once, building parts of a course at ARC. A part representing the typical 90 bend, a panic/lane change on ABS/threshold breaking etc. It would require some effort, but a BYCC would be the most plausible time I believe.

Even things like doing burnouts, figure8s etc. could be part of the training.

What would be good to practice are:

1) S bends
2) Double apex corners
3) ABS/Threshold braking
4) Correcting Under/Oversteer
5) Four wheel drifts for the AWD crowd.

what time will the training start and finish? say 9-12 then an hour break for lunch so that a course can be set up etc? from experience though, a course takes more than an hour to set up. Also, will the people running the training also have to set up the course or will it be two separate "teams" allowing the training group to go for lunch etc while the "competition" people take over?

Well, as I understand it, the BYCCs normally follow the carting course as closely as possible. Also, an elaborate and neat setup of a course for a BYCC is not really necessary? I believe if training is to be held, it should take precedence (say 70/30 of the time) over the actual BYCC "competition".

I once attended a Porsche Experience day and they did training, track time and a make shift solodex type course/competition in the space of about 8 hours, including lunch. The SoloDex course was laid down in about half an hour - totally random placement of cones in a general course-like formation. Timing was stop-watch so no big setup required there.

It can be done if we push ourselves. Also, getting some of the experienced circuit/rally drivers out there as instructures would be real cool.

umm, no.
BYCC courses are varied, the same way dex courses are.

so then a BYCC is a normal SoloDex that does not count towards championship.

it's a fun dex, from courses to head to head, and i do like the driving practice idea.
so hopefully will be included soon.

I think we have enough driving talent down here that someone(s) can step up and hold a useful course or series of courses.

The only thing is trini don't like to share info too much.

i don't think we have tuh worry too much with this one, as it is basic stuff, and even some of the "high grade" :D dextors can help the lower ones, even the rally guys.

Great idea... I know my car can do it... but it's my driving skill that's keeping me back.
One thing that attracts me to the BYCC events is the head to head - maybe we can use this to "kill 2 birds with one stone"
During the morning period the training can be on one side while the other is open for fun runs. Then after lunch both sides would be open for head to head runs.

Not bad an idea, assuming ARC has enough space for this. The training would require a lot of space though I think.

blue
head to head is not feasible at ARC, there are obstacles which are not laid out symmetrically which will affect course layout.

training should require less than head to head. if sectioned off, into lets say 4 or 6 sections. each one dealing with a different maneuver.

examples
straight line braking
braking to the left or right
braking to the left, then right
etc.
