STAR WARS: EPISODE VII TO OPEN DECEMBER 18, 2015

With pre-production in full-swing, a confirmed release date of December 18, 2015, has been set for Lucasfilm's highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII.

"We're very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture," said Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams (Super 8, Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek) and is being scripted by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, with Tommy Harper (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Jack Ryan, Star Trek Into Darkness) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds) serving as executive producers. John Williams is returning to score Star Wars: Episode VII.

Shooting is scheduled to begin spring 2014 at Pinewood Studios.

Funny how i LOVED the the old Star Wars movies and HATED the old Star Trek flicks.... now it's exactly the opposite, with the newer incarnations.

Star wars a lil too naively childish. Where the good guys are clearly good and the bad guys are clearly bad, the rest of characters are plot fillers. The biggest shocker is where a good guy was secretly a bad one (I think is Palatine/darth sidious).
JJ abrams good but from super 8 he might keep it sunny and cheerful. It would make the opening box office money, but because people would want to see what it is about. There would not be much continuing interest.

They would need to get a lot more grimey, like riddick but without the corneyness. And keep the sunny stuff in capsules, like transformers. Give u a lil jarjar banks comedy then pull it down to riddick.

All in all , I'm seeing a children's target audience . I would like to see them use the wide worlds of aliens and worlds, and make it gritty like predator.

Childish? It was pretty grim, save the romance and the tax debates.

Episode 4 started with a wholesale massacre, an on-screen summary execution, and an off-screen execution and torching of innocent civilians. Han Solo preemptively killed someone, an entire planet was destroyed for no reason other than to keep others in fear, Obi-Wan committed suicide by blade to help Luke, and then there was a pitched battle involving the destruction of the Death Star.

Episode 3 was a dramatic turnaround in quality for the prequels. It featured a badass Grievous, execution of Dooku, massacres and murders of the Jedi, kids being killed, Palpatine rising to power by usurping authority in the galaxy, Windu being thrown out a building, and then the final fight scene where Vader gets his freaking limbs ripped off and fried like a hot wing.

JJ Abrams has script ready for Star Wars as casting rumours grow

JJ Abrams has said the script for his Star Wars film is ready, and that he has been in talks with Breaking Bad actor Jesse Plemons – and even Judi Dench is rumoured for a role.

JJ Abrams has confirmed that the script for his Star Wars film is ready, and that shooting will begin in May in the UK. "We're working really hard and we've got our script and we're in deep prep," he said following a Television Critics Association event.

As well being set to direct, Abrams wrote the script with Lawrence Kasdan, who co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He also told USA Today that casting news would come "soon, and I look forward to that so that we can get past it and we can get on with it".

With that news still forthcoming, the rumour mill continues to whirr, particularly after Abrams confirmed that he'd had meetings with Jesse Plemons, the American actor known for roles in TV dramas Breaking Bad and Friday Night Lights. But Abrams was keen to play down the chatter: "It's usually agents talking to people about what's happening. It's a lot of noise."

Another far less substantiated rumour concerns Judi Dench, with Big Shiny Robot's Full of Sith podcast claiming she's being considered for the role of Mon Mothma, a founder of the Rebel Alliance – the gossipy Latino Review also hinted at her casting.

Abrams did reveal that he would be shooting Star Wars on film rather than digital, and wouldn't be using Imax-format cameras. "The problem with Imax is it's a very loud camera, it's a very unreliable camera, there's only so much film that can be in the camera," he said. "You can't really do intimate scenes with it. It's slow. They break down often."

'Star Wars: Episode VII' Cast Announced (PHOTOS)

Image

JJ Abrams is killing us with this slow trickle of "Star Wars: Episode VII" information.

After lots of speculation, Abrams has deigned to reveal the stars of "Star Wars: Episode VII," and the line-up is pretty much exactly what we've been hearing for the past few months. As per StarWars.com, the cast newcomers will include John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow, with Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker returning.

Of course, the names being bandied about aren't exactly news to "Star Wars"-watchers. We've been hearing about "Girls" star Adam Driver snagging a "Star Wars" role since February, when Variety reported a rumor that the lanky actor was in negotiations to play a big baddie "in the vein of iconic 'Star Wars' villain Darth Vader." Sounds kinky. John Boyega beat out the other actors vying for the lead role of a young Jedi, which is pretty cool! If you sci-fi fans haven't seen him in "Attack the Block," you should rectify that ASAP. Believe it. Boyega is also in the upcoming adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel "Half of a Yellow Sun," with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, and Anika Noni Rose.

Oscar Isaac is new to the "Star Wars" game, but the buzz around the "Inside Llewyn Davis" star has been getting louder and louder for some time. Whether he'll be on the on the side of the Force or not has yet to be revealed. The only name bandied about that wasn't part of today's official announcement was Maisie Richardson-Sellers, who was rumored to be up for the role of a young woman related to Ben Kenobi. Of course, there's sure to be more "Star Wars" news to come.

Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill have been seen chilling in London. How convenient.

A man who was taking publicity shots for a flying school returned home to find he had captured images of spacecraft from the new Star Wars film.

Image

Matthew Myatt originally thought his pictures of the Millennium Falcon and an X-Wing fighter were experimental aircraft at Greenham Common, Berkshire.

He said: "It wasn't too clear until I viewed the picture and then realised what it was. I grew up with Star Wars so I started jumping around."

Episode VII is being filmed in the UK.

'Falcon paint job'

The images sparked excitement among Star Wars fans on the internet.

Dolphin558 wrote on http://www.theforce.net: "Wow. I had heard the Millennium Falcon would be in Episode VII but it looks like X-Wings will make an appearance as well."

Jacklyn Thrapp tweeted: "That is amazing." Char10tti3 tweeted: "At least it's not all CGI."

Another fan, @ACQUlESCE, added: "Looks like the falcon got a paint job."

Tom Cronin wrote: "Who'd've guessed filmmakers still build physical

The picture, taken above Greenham Common, a former RAF airbase, appears to show a partly-built Millennium Falcon, Han Solo's beloved spaceship.

Also visible is an X-Wing fighter, although it is mostly covered from view.

Mr Myatt, who works at Airbourne Aviation flying club as a simulations engineer, was photographing one plane from another during a flight from the school's base at Popham Airfield, Micheldever, in Hampshire.

He said: "I didn't know it was there, and we flew down and did some orbits. It was based around the old cruise missile silo.

"It wasn't until I got back last night and started going through the images that it just jumped out at me.

"I was quite stunned. It was like, 'wow'. That's how the picture came about, purely by luck.

"I had to go and grab my son who's a big Star Wars fan and get him to come and look at the picture and pinch me and make sure I'd seen what I'd seen.

Disney, which owns Lucasfilm, the company behind the Star Wars films, declined to comment on the pictures.

Jordan Farley, writer for SFX magazine, said the airbase was a possible filming location "because it's a big open space and they're going to need a lot of space".

And the Falcon's "half" appearance can be put down to modern filming techniques, he explained.

"They may be planning to shoot from one side and have a practical model, and extend it with computer graphics, because it's incredibly expensive to build a prop of this size."

As well as filming at Pinewood Studios since May, parts of Episode VII have also been shot in Abu Dhabi and on Skellig Michael, Ireland.

The film will see the return of the three principal characters from the original trilogy - Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford).

Ford broke his leg on set in June while filming a scene involving a door on the Falcon, causing a delay in shooting.

The movie is due in cinemas in December 2015.
