So this is just a heads up, that your pricing is actually turning competitors away and not actually generating the extra revenue that you're expecting.

Having only known the cost tonight, I have only spoken to six of the usual competitors, and they all say $250 is, to put it gently, exorbitant; and they won't be willing to compete @ your show.

silent riot i understand what u are sayin but please try an see from my side as well

firstly we were not goin to have sq but after some of d sq ppl requested this we changed to facilatate u all

d info we got is that there are 15-17 competitors for sq

we have iasca fees to pay for this as u all may know

also there are the trophies which are not cheap ...... our trophies are quite large compared to other shows .......

now when we calculate these costs against the amount of competitors we are not even breakin even on this part of the show .........

please don,t feel that i am makin any kind of excuse for u all , i didn,t have to tell u all these tings but it is my first time doin this and tried to please everybody ...... .....

So far everyone is willing to compete at $175.

SQ competitors badass, they name their compition fees?

Guys you have to look at this from a promoters side, you guys asked for SQ and they fitted you in, they arent using a small carpark, there are will be higher costs associated with this show. A lot of things DE audio and MBC and even the ICE club would have gotten done for free or cheaper (manpower/area rental/toilets/utilities) shaker would have to pay for.

And then added to that cost is trophies and licences (something else Ive not seen in other SQ shows). All this they are doing just to facilitate the SQ family yet $250 is too much to compete...

shaker, I understand the costs of shows and sanctioning as we do hold small scale events for SQ only. This is the majority of the competitors' position.

Competitors do have a choice to compete or not, and 10 of those 15-17 will not be competing at $250. A price like that just can't be named two nights before the event, and then expect people to willingly pay. It sounds like you want us to pay for our trophy, which is not a wise way to run a show.

It is not a cost we are accustom to paying ($80-$175), and knowing Trinidadian promoters, it will set a precedent for them to charge similar prices in future, with the same justifications. I don't even remember paying that much for SPL or SQ at finals even when international judges were flown in.

I would advise you to reconsider the pricing as you are standing to lose $2500, instead of $750.
But thank you for your honesty in your response.

I wasted 30 mins typing out a decent response to Shakeer, then to realise that Kurpal posted.

Are you competing Kurpal?

At the risk of sounding like a total ungrateful jerk, I will say this...

I suspect the reason behind needing to send a PM for comp pricing is that it was higher than usual.

I remember this conversation the last time Shameer hosted a world record event.

The SQ members revolted against exorbitant pricing for their competitions. Shameer worked with us.
We accepted considerably smaller trophies for a lesser comp fee.

This is FYI.

We usually compete for a handshake and a certificate all season, so the promise of a 4 ft, 4 post trophy is no deal breaker, certainly NOT for the die hard SQ competitors.

...

Don't use the "first time" excuse. Im a potential customer of your event. Those details should be transparent to me because you aren't going to cost your events differently to account for your inexperience. You plan to charge more that average, so we should expect a lot more for our comp fee.

The onus is on us to rationalize if the higher cost is worth it without the risk of creating price precedence. 250.00 for a regular event... what's next 500.00 for finals?

If you plan to maintain a higher standard for giving the best trophies in the country, that's your cost to bear as the event promoter, not mine as a competitor. Its just wrong, that you hope to offset your event costs by charging the competitor more. Please don't ask me to commiserate with you. I am not receiving a share in your profit at the end of the event.

IASCA usually charges 175.00 for non members and 150.00 for members. And that's where we got that price from. Its what we have been paying all season. Call us badass, call us what you'd like. The fee is paid from our pockets. Stop trying to convince us that the price charged is ok. If it were, it wouldn't need a page plus of justifications.

The difference in price from 175 to 250, over 17 competitors is roughly the cost of 3 second place trophies. So you are trying to convince me that the promoter is short by 1275.00 to break even. Really. Seriously...

I predict, on a saddened note, that this will be the last time a promoter, offers SQ.

Scratch that.

I will bring a open cheque for the event promoter tomorrow for the sum of 1275.00.

On the conditions that:

1. the sq comp fee is 175.00
2. we recieve the same trophies as the others.
3. no sq member be discriminated against.

Endorsed. Of course a trophy is additional cost, but at the end of the day, most of us are in it just to see where our scores are.

No nigel I may not be competing tomorrow but I am to be present to cover the SQ portion of the show hence my interest.

Just for clarification, is that $175 for non- IASCA members?
Or for BOTH IASCA members and non-members?
Just want to be sure.

Agreed, I just spoke to those who were interested at a lower price and they will all be there. Thanks for listening and making this work, shameer.

well then my good friend in 2009... u did pay $250 to compete in Samaar... when.. Terry Floyd was flown in..

prior to that in 2008 in Kaydonna.. again WRE... was $250..

i think that was when de guy from RF was here and the first time ever they had the buildoff competition.

Thank you for the correction, avinash. You were right.

But this was the kind of thing I was alluding to...i.e. if you could pay it once, then you could to pay it again! I hope you see my point.

However, I must extend thanks to shaker and shameer for hosting us and listening to the concerns. The DJ was also considerate to keep quiet during judging. There were not much facilities that early such as food or drinks so we had to venture out of the arena for that.
A lot of guys were there for 7:30 as was requested, but things didn't kickoff until well after 8. So there's that area for improvement.

Postby SR » October 31st, 2011, 5:24 pm

it was requested by some that they needed "prep" time prior to actual competition and thats why the gates were opened at 7:30 to allow this as well as tents were in place from the night before to allow the sq competitors covered parking
this was all done at an additional cost to facilitate the sq competition as normally tents are not put in place until the morning of the event

keep in mind while the "sq" competitors arrive early they also leave early while iasca officials need to be there for the entire day as there are other iasca competitions
