I bolted on a 32/36 Weber onto one of these (after making the plate for it) for a friend of mine. He was quite happy with the improved performance! He told me afterwards that an intake manifold exists for these that is fed by two double-throat Webers!

Quite right... Spec's videos were proof of that. A strong and durable car, whose lines are still quite pleasing and streamlined.

Nigie, what do they have in mind for the engine (more importantly, the gearbox)? Are they restoring it, or tossing it out?

Yeah there is that argument with almost everything Japanese ,reliability, ease of maintenance, parts availability, its the same thing like putting an American v8 in a Mk 1 or Mk 2 Toyota super saloon its sacrilegious. It takes away from the feel of the car .what would you say about a toyota 20 valve or 2jz in a mgb.

my preference is either a 2.0 cossie or a 13B
I posted a pic a while back of a Frogeye Sprite with a 13B painted in Healey green engine paint......one of the best conversons I've seen
and what's so bad with a V8 in a Super Saloon?

Isn't it intriguing how similar the body shapes and curves of this car are to the Singer Vogue? I swear the tail is the same except for the tail-light shapes! I believe some shell parts and trim are interchangeable, including a few bits of the Humber Hawk...

If your friend is giving you a V6 engine and transmission, then let me assure you that no one here is laughing... (we are all quietly turning green  )
I'm having a little problem understanding what was said here, especially "box" and "3500".
Did you mean it is an automatic and you cannot get a gearbox from him? or is it the "brainbox" that is missing from a modern engine, which is why it is up for grabs?
Is it a 3.5 litre engine? or it was offered to you for $3500?
(Not a Benz man, so quite ignorant here  )

Nigie or MG, which engine is this?
Kingbob, if he is giving it to you, (I think a V6 won't require cutting that firewall) then stick it in the Hunter!
If the firewall is in the way, then still accept it, cover it down, put a Pinto in the Hunter and get it running properly... THEN GUT THE MAZDA AND STICK THE V6 IN IT, CONVERTING IT TO A RWD using a Cortina (or better yet a Datsun 720) diff...
Was the engine running properly before your friend pulled it? (Why did he pull it out?)

Eh eh...
(starts to back pedal ONE TIME)
To put out that kinda pesh... for a first timer... that will require modding... and an integral piece missing (so you can't test it to see if it was actually working with no/little problems)... and a computerized engine (you 'fraid to dig in de mazda as yuh find dat more complicated than de Hunter????) that you will have to learn to fix/tune yourself to save cash...
Image

Boy, if I were you, I'd stick with the earlier plan of a Pinto. Keep your ears n' eyes open - they're out there. Focus on the Hunter's shell, suspension and brakes. The engine will appear in time, I assure you.
