Common misconception of Toyota vehicles of today. That might hold for the pre-2000 vehicles.
Agree with the resale part though.

That's cause its not really a typical Nissan ... Its a euro! Qashai was designed and built in the UK.

I guess all those Prados line-up @ TTTL's service center calling for parts is an oversight on my part. They are there for a courtesy wash and polish since they never call for parts! Good resale value? LOL that point is invalid eg. a 2010 Kia Sorento loses 35-40% of the purchase price after 4 years roughly the same as a 2010 Prado. Toyota's legendary resale value FTL..

So with these new prices for the Prado, a Minister can easily justify a Porsche Cayenne without the MVT?
Since the diesel Cayenne from page 1 is $1.075 mil
Not a politically inclined post, just comparing fiures.

When I meant it doesn't need parts, I meant engine and suspension wise.

And for the guy who says a 9 year old vehicle doesn't need parts, well think again. I have a Prado here that was actually 9 years old this month... haven't changed a thing on it yet. The only issue I had was the famous cracking dashboard, which was changed under warranty. Other than that, nothing, just maintenance parts - brakes etc. The chill box still works up to today.

I had another Prado since 1998 I sold 2 years ago @ 206000kms. Only things that were changed on that, other than regular maintenance parts were the evaporator, AC compressor, radiator and a sensor. Even the seat warmers worked after 13 years, as well as the sunroof and headlight sprayers.

As for resale value:
A Prado purchased for $380,000 in 1997-1998 can sell for $130-150,000 today according to it's condition.
A Prado purchased for $460,000 in 2005 can sell for $280-320,000 today according to it's condition.

And for the Govt being the main customer, that's right... Even if the general public doesn't purchase them, the Govt would. They took nearly all of the first batch of the 2014 facelift. Heard it was real fight down to get one late last year if you wanted it.

Should be over $1.1 by now with the new MVT.

Case studies, meaning 1 person who had a car and never had any problems with it does not mean that vehicle/company makes reliable vehicles.

Meta data is the way to go people .... please do not justify that your prado is reliable and never needs parts cause you had one and it never needed parts.

Cause I have a 3rd cousin with merc C class thats 12 years old and never needed parts except for brakes, spark plugs and usual wear and tear parts. So by your logic Mercedes C class cars are the most reliable car out there!

Yeah but I'm giving first hand examples... Alot of guys here quick to speculate without their own experiences.

And well look at that C Class you speak of... 12 years old should make it a PBM or so right? I knew someone with a PBM series C200 and it was plagued with problems - air condition, ABS etc.

I know someone with a Prado less than 2 years and had major AC problems. Entire evaporator had to be replaced under warranty.

The 2010-2011 ones have an evaporator problem, once it's under warranty you're covered.

Don't think you should compare Land Rover to Toyota for reliability. Even Land Rover knows that.

acesinghit wrote:TTTL main customer for Prado's is the GORTT. No need to be competitive when you have a sure sale!

I'll buy a Benz ML350 for less than $900k.

Probably went up with new MVT also? Will still be a better buy for road use though.

Who say Land rover not reliable ???
Land Rover Defender is an extremely reliable vehicle and could take on a hilux or prado any day.

You comparing the Defender to the Prado? A more fitting comparison is the Defender to the work grade Hilux.

I was hoping we would have gotten the american looking version ... looked much younger and sportier.
This sort of looks muscular but a bit bland. Front is very much a copy of the chevy Cruze.

But all round an upgrade from the old corolla!

Once the midspec doesn't come with drum brakes and hubcaps, it'll be a worthwhile upgrade.

For the introductory models at least Dave. They'll have more variety later on in the year most likely.

Rear disc brakes and rims are still considered upgrades in 2014?

I said the same until I went Massey and started adding accessories to my van then I got a shocker, in addition so far I've seen two cases where the local 4x4 Manual 6FWD Navara Clutch cylinders are breaking off at the firewall anyone on tuner experience this??

One more, Tuscon owners have you had to change brakes (all pads) after your first 5K service ??

wrt to the navaras and hilux, feature wise, the only useful advantages/ features I could see with the outside dealerships, were the cruise control, and in some cases, traction control. Beyond that, the blingy wheels, additional lights, body kits and side cladding really aren't to my taste. The worst thing for me though has to be the interior, where the term "putting lipstick on a pig," really comes to mind.
Mechanically speaking, I honestly can't recall the major differences, but I know the guys over in the truck forum mention them ever so often.

As for the Tuscon, I was chatting with some old guy last year at the stealership and he mentioned he was in to have all his pads replaced; I think he was doing around 12,000 km.
