So i got my refund from amazon...and im looking for gtx 680 now but there r so many versions out. Any one in particular you guys would recommend? Single monitor gaming @ 1920 res. so im guessing the 4GB versions would be a waste of money. I also need to make sure which ever i get, is using a reference PCB for future possible w/cooling

You can get either a normal clocked card or a superclocked, 2Gb is fine.

The ftw to me is ah waste since is just ah factory oc bios on d card.

Easier to set ur own oc profiles with msi afterburner and use dat instead of paying more for ah overclock version.

I'd recommend EVGA brand because of their exceptional mod friendly warranty. 4GB cards are a waste of $, only useful if you was running x3 2560x1440 res. monitors.

Now im doing my research (all over again :| ) and im seeing the 7970 Ghz edition cards pretty much neck and neck with 680s. even out performing the 680 in a few games.
So now im actually looking at these 2
XFX Double D HD 7970 Black Edition
XFX Double D HD 7970 GHz Edition

Does the Ghz edition provide more OC headroom to really make it worth that extra $70?

As a XFX B.E owner I'd obviously tell you go with the Black Edition Card. I have had no issues with it and honestly the Ghz version is marginal in terms of the "extra" performance which isn't worth is to me.
And if you do go with a B.E card you are looking at the 7970 which is a great buy in my book. I was planning to put my card up for sale and go with a 7970 but I might just buy another 7950 B.E and run it in crossfire

Image

Circuit for a 3 speed fan controller, 100%, 58% and 41%

Just need 2 dpdt switches... the 2nd switch controls the 2nd setting (Medium/low) on the 1st switch

I will try to get more speed options with the 3.3v rail sometime

If I get dread in d future I go make a continuously variable controller with a transistor, a pot and the 12v rail , have to rummage thru my parts bin to look for a transistor and a pot lol

Corsair and Antec does do the same thing too.

Most brand name power supplies have up to a couple hundred watts headroom.

LOL fail.

I thought u meant the psu was OUTPUTTING near 900 watts, not pulling ~ 850 watts from d wall.

Dem fellas who did the review are chupidees as well if they believe that.

I said Handle...never said anything about it outputting...sorry if you interpreted it like that...I still think that's impressive for a "lower end" PSU though.

It's headroom capabilities are shown by the fact that it Handled the GTX 480 and the CPU at full Load

When it comes to PSU's I trust Corsair. Cariszone has them for decent prices. Whatever you do, don't get generic crap. It's the heart of your system.
