Where to start....

you need to start to understand:

Makeup
Posing (there are masculine elements to that pose by the way)
lighting principles such as specular highlights, rim lights etc to make your subject pop
using the proper camera profiles
post processsing
I bet you did B&W because your colors were off. I am guessing you have no clue what a gel is or how to correct white balance either in camera or in post.

None of this has to do with your specific camera. D journey now start.. do some reading on fashion photography. if you want some tips in person, I don't mind being part of one of those shoots and showing you what I know. That said, Kodak porta 160 film is the gold standard for natural skintones... you should shoot some to see what your portraits are supposed to look like and edit your digital pics to suit.

I would have liked to see that last pic with a wider depth of feild or maybe focus on the first plum so it doesn't apper out of focus at first.

It's only after I loaded it on the computer I realized it was blurred.
I was too lazy to go do it over, then again, it was only the stems left.

^Nice pic on the first one...these pics better than alot of people own in here with DSLR's.
About it being a good cam...it sure is. It may not be a nice to use as a dslr but image quality and speed is right up there.
Canon users will be canon users at the end of the day...they like to ridicule non canon users, so get use to it
