People, I'm in the process of either building a new rig or upgrading my existing one.
I'm on a budget but will need the new build to handle HD / Blu-Ray playback, gaming etc.
This is the existing MOBO
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/770-C45.h ... ver&os=All
with 4GB ram and a AMD Athlon II X2 254 Processor and a 9400GT
Should I bother upgrading or Maxing out this board?

These are the new options I'm considering -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... s-Desktops
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... therboards
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... top-Memory
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... r-Supplies
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-DisplayPort-P ... =de_a_smtd
Can the GPU be run in Sli?
Thoughts? Btw on a budget, trying not to cross 650USD

The GPU there is an ATI card so you cant do SLI but you can run Crossfire with it....basically it's like "SLI with an ATI card"

Your board is good. I don't think that you'd need to upgrade your entire system. Try and see if you can source a Phenom 1045t/1065t. It would be nice if you could get the 1090t though...try looking on ebay. You can Upgrade the CPU and still go with the GPU upgrade and save the extra money.
BTW if you want to run a multiple GPU setup...you're gonna have to upgrade your board but it's not necessary. With the GPU and CPU upgrade you're good to go with just one GPU and not having to swap out your board :D
You should checkout this card instead btw
http://www.amazon.com/XFX-DisplayPort-PCI-Express-FX785ACNJC-FX-785A-CNJC/dp/B0083GA9WM/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1350839621&sr=8-7&keywords=ATI+7850

You can add 4GB more to your existing RAM to make up 8GB or upgrade to faster memory if you want. Corsair has a Dominator 8GB Dual channel kit for about 50US and they perform really good.
Your board Supports up to 16GB of RAM...so if you can afford it i'd say go for it :D
Currently using the 8GB kit...planning to go 24GB in the future :D

Once you not letting it fill up with excessive dust, it should be safe.

Just cover it down with a big plastic bag & store it in a cool non dusty area

Good points here.
My upgrade recommendations are these:

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Phenom-1045T- ... enom+ii+x6

$115.51US

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-SUPE ... ds=gtx+660

$230US

http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technolo ... +ddr3+1600

$70US (optional)

The board fine as is. I had the model like his with crossfire capability and was able to get a 1090T up to 4ghz easy/stable.
The 1045T should reach 3.4GHz with just an FSB adjustment.

Some old ones from some busted power supplies or some of the ones above the processors will do fine, I think they are 3".

Looking for approx 4 - 6 pieces. Anyone got e-waste (scrap parts) will have these doing nothing and need to dispose of them, I dont mind paying a few bucks for the junk (if free better).

I'd ditch the cooler master PSU, go with corsair builder series. They're around the same price but the corsair has a 3yr warranty & it's 80+ bronze certified.

Cases

I'd suggest for a video card a 6870. This card performs really well, I was pushing 3 monitors with just 1.

You could also look at the 7770 if you find the 6870 too much.

What's your overall budget & main use for this system?

Mr. firstchoicett. About that 230mm fan, you ever got it back in stock?

Also I looking for a USB wireless adapter if thats the correct name of it. Basically, I have access to a 4G modem from blink and I want to get internet on my desktop. Its one of those dell workstations you find in all the usual offices.

If you can recommend something that will work on the desktop thats compatible with the 4G modem, that will be greatly appreciated. According the the price I might take 2 if you have.

Thanks in advance.

Ok no probs.

Is there any type of USB wifi stick that can work with the box that I can buy? I'll just be borrowing the WiMAX box so I would kinda inconvenience the owner. Unless I can just walk into TSTT and request a stick without having the WiMAX service...?
