Saw an HRV on the way to Maracas Sunday with its passenger airbag randomly deployed. The question is how many of these foreign used cars have work done on them and to what quality before they come here. It's both new and used cars that these fires are occurring though

Under warranty I'd say the manufacturer but I don't think it would be easy to through with a claim without getting Consumer Affairs involved just because dealers like to block upfront.

Why are so many cars catching fire in accidents? Cheap 'top-up' refrigerant is a possiblilty..... some cheap refrigerants are propane based (flammable and explosive)....this was brought to my attention by a chemical engineer and recently by a reputable ac tech who only uses R134a with synthetic oil, unlike those who using flammable grade R415, R22, and even mixing R134a with mineral oil...all in the name of cost

take a lil read here: http://www.epa.gov/ozone/snap/r22a.html

also do a lil snooping around...you'll be surprised

I always assumed cars catching fire was due to faulty installation of music, never did it occur to me that it could be the refrigerant.

Lots of reasons why cars can catch fire. Manufacturer's defects, improper mods, bad servicing etc

Retired National Petroleum driver, and father of two Rupert King, of Hampden Lowlands Tobago is dead following a vehicular accident along the Claude Noel Highway in the vicinity of Hampden Lowlands yesterday, mere metres from his home.

King’s body lay motionless on the ground, as investigators processed the scene yesterday.

Dr Adeyemi Maxwell ordered the removal of the body to the Scarborough Mortuary.

King’s stepdaughter Kelly Ann Withstrum said he was a quiet man who went to Crown Point daily to fish.

“He was quiet. Morning and evening he would pack his bags and go to fish. He would be missed by all,” she said.

Public relations officer of the Tobago Fire Service David Thomas said the incident occurred at around 1 p.m. yesterday.

King, the driver of a white Hyundai Accent car was travelling west, and attempting to turn into Hampden Road, while a grey Nissan Bluebird driven by Clyde James was travelling east.

“Apparently there was some misjudgment and the Accent found itself in the path of the Bluebird, resulting in the collision, and resulting in a fatality,” Thomas said. James, 55, of Mary’s Hill, Tobago was also injured in the accident.
