Man knows his stuff 8-)
Thats the best way to prepare the fish and few people know how to do this. If they knew though, it may not be catch and release anymore

I release most that I catch though, the other release themselves

Hey man long time...8-)

well my grandfather know how to prepare any fish....serious....I feel juss not he will learn how to cook the "chof chof"...lol

Well i dont kept any tarpon under 4ft long.... Anything smaller are babies in my book.... I like to leave fishes to grow! Many people should learn to do that... so there would be an abundance of huge fishes...but then again we in trinidad and when the catch a small fish..."BOI THAT IS SAUCE"...lol

Anyway guys as i said b4 easter is right around the corner so i telling you guys if you all wanna come fish up there i would be there from the friday(good friday) morning till easter sunday and i will have my boat and we could go fish some nice mounts of tributaries.. As i said b4 bigger fish wait around the mount for smaller fish coming out the tributaries and you can only get there by boat and me showing you where the best spots are  ..

manualmx, yup... I had fish break 80lb line there already... real nice...

Well i have two boat...One big one and a lil small flat bottom boat! Small enough to even go into the tributaries! Plus i might be bringing one of my big boats to head into the sea aswell.. I will launch in the river mount. One to do a lil banking and stuff out in the manzan ocean. That boat would be a big boat though like a 40ft or someting of i dont bring mine i will let my uncle bring his.

True that...i always throw back the small ones...let them grow for later....but trinis
again....fu*king greedy does eat everything and then complain it hardly have fish eh...
well if you idiots catching the young fry what do you expect....if i catch a fish and i know i ain't gonna eat it ....i toss it back in the sea / river....we fishing enthusiast should start helping to conserve our game fish population....i want to be fishing for decades to come and i love fish broth....not fig broth.....off to the islands this weekend
hopefully will catch a few big ones.... :D

releasing the big ones has a more profound effect on the ecology and preserving its integrity though...most game species have ALOT of growing to do to reach maturity and breeding age/size...resources and laws of nature dictate very few of the juveniles of these species will reach maturity to reproduce...throwing back a few big ones (even a prize catch) helps ensure a balance in the population...and more importantly, ensures that there are ALWAYS mature breeding adults in the ecosystem, as opposed to a whole lot of immature/juvenile fish struggling to beat the race to reproduce.

not only that, recent studies (Prof. John Agard, UWI) show that fish from our Gulf region have pollutant and chemical buildup much MUCH more than our developing country should have....in disturbing quantities, carcinogens, heavy metals, trace radioactivity among the majority....keeping bigger fish, means much more accumulated pollutants you're ingesting, as the build up in exponential across the food chain....serious stuff.

BTW.. http://www.epa.gov/fishadvisories/advice/

'nearly all fish and shellfish contain traces of mercury. For most people, the risk from mercury by eating fish and shellfish is not a health concern. Yet, some fish and shellfish contain higher levels of mercury that may harm an unborn baby or young child's developing nervous system.'

'By following these three recommendations for selecting and eating fish or shellfish, women and young children will receive the benefits of eating fish and shellfish and be confident that they have reduced their exposure to the harmful effects of mercury.

Do not eat Shark, Swordfish, King Mackerel, or Tilefish because they contain high levels of mercury.
Eat up to 12 ounces (2 average meals) a week of a variety of fish and shellfish that are lower in mercury.
Five of the most commonly eaten fish that are low in mercury are shrimp, canned light tuna, salmon, pollock, and catfish.
Another commonly eaten fish, albacore ("white") tuna has more mercury than canned light tuna. So, when choosing your two meals of fish and shellfish, you may eat up to 6 ounces (one average meal) of albacore tuna per week.
Check local advisories about the safety of fish caught by family and friends in your local lakes, rivers, and coastal areas. If no advice is available, eat up to 6 ounces (one average meal) per week of fish you catch from local waters, but don't consume any other fish during that week.'

I've always known from talking with my uncles and others that fished about the dangers of naturally occurring mercury in many fish species.

As i always say, everything will kill you, yet everything can be good for you depending on quantities ingested. Basically just balance out what your eating...

I find this forum yesterday and I didn't know it had ppl who like to fish in manzan so much too. Was in manzan sunday, caught a stingray on piece of herring, no other bites because I bought some stinky shrimps. Water was real nice though.

Spent a week in cedros shore fishing the other day caught a 9 pound boshe and a huge cavalli gone wit my hook rig because I couldn't stop him..... :(

real (trinbago) fishermen don't use rods, unless yuh pon d north coast scene.

Line, hook, sinker, old bottle or a good caster is all you really need, I'll post a pic of a tarpon (gran tikai) my cousin caught using these

Rooki3, start off with a DAIWA COMBO...then you can just change the reel in the future.

After you get experienced (and money) you can change rod and reel to a penn or shimano.
