Rory,
you realise that logic and sycophant are as closely related as pomerac and chataigne?

These look like shallow draft vessels that could actually operate in the waters between Cedros and Venezuela as well as offshore. Something that the pnm opv couldn't.

This we definitely learn from the PNM with the example of 3 for the price of 12

Like u eh see the PNM pay $1.3 Billion for ONLY 3 vessels

and the PPG pay the same for 12 or wah?!!!!

PNM have skeletons in the closet still to come out

Serious question here. Are the specifications of the vessels that were to be purchased by the PNM and those purchased by the PPG the same? Because if they are not, then you are comparing pomerac and chataigne.

Firstly the PPG bought what the Coast Guard specifically asked for....the PNM didn't.

The PPG bought the most used brand among countries...the PNM didn't.

The vessels were on spec, on target, clearly on budget, not overbudgeted, on contract, on time...the PNM didn't.

Because they were not what the Coast Guard requested because Manning wanted to be the Navy of the Caribbean. Steups.

NARCO GAMES??

OPVs enable longer deployment at sea for sustained deterrence with the helipads further enhancing capabilities. Instead the helos are used as glorified taxis.
Coastal Patrol Vessels are already on station from a competent contractor.

ORDER SECURED FOR FAST PATROL CRAFT FLEET
April 22, 2008
Maintenance and training contracts attached to significant defence order

Following the recent completion of Australia’s 14-vessel Armidale Class Patrol Boat fleet, Austal announces the contract to build six 30 metre aluminium fast patrol craft for the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

This significant order includes additional contracts for scheduled & unscheduled maintenance and crew training services and adds to Austal’s track record of providing capable and affordable defence solutions.
The all-aluminium fast patrol boats will support the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard in providing sustained surveillance in the country’s internal waters, the archipelagic territorial sea and its exclusive economic zone.

Each vessel will have a small 12 man crew, a maximum speed of 40 knots and will be armed with three General Purpose Machine Guns and a 20mm Cannon.
All six vessels will be constructed at Austal’s facilities in Henderson, Western Australia and are scheduled for delivery by early 2010.

During the construction period, Austal will provide a training programme including familiarisation of vessel operation, ship based engineer training as well as maintenance training for shore-based support personnel.

Following delivery of the vessels, a five year comprehensive maintenance and support services program will be provided by Austal, which will include scheduled planned and preventative maintenance support, unscheduled maintenance, management and performance of annual surveys and maintenance periods as well as shore-based engineering support.

We need to be able to secure or borders which lie at 100 nautical miles out in the atlantic in order to prevent the heavy inflow of drugs from the African continents. OPV's with Helipads would be more suitable.

What use would they been if they were not on target, not complying with their contract, had unresolved issues?

The MV Sue might have done a better job

well if they chasing a cruise ship it isnt but small speed boats it is important.

Just now u go ask if guns being on target not important either...hence the OPVs were cancelled in addition to breach of contract and other unresolved issues.

So you are basing the operational effectiveness of an OPV in chase of a 'smaller' vessel by a picture?

An OPV with a helipad designed to give long range capabilities to the Coast Guard gonna run down a drug boat right. Too much Miami Vice dude.
