A vehicle that is most times bypassed in any discussion here is the current T31 Xtrail. It has acceptable power, plenty room and most features to keep the average ipad owner entertained. The cost is $360k and you get front, side and curtain airbags and a full tilt/slide panoramic sunroof. It is also equipped with xenon HID lights, leather appointed seats, 6CD mp3 stereo, hyper roof, 18" rims, reverse cam and the usual host of power features. Engine is old tech but serves the purpose well and the tranny is CVT. The 4wd system is very simple, part time capability with lock and high/low gearing. I'm not into SUV's but I don't mind owning one of these.

I am looking at the A4,the Q5, the 3 series and the C class.
Rear room is very important and safety is paramount. Decided that I should shed my earlier preference to stay out of the luxury category.

Why isn't Volvo an option? What about the V60? Based on the brands you have quoted, Volvo should be right up there in the price bracket you are looking at.

Let me tell you , I love Volvo! Definitely a first choice pick for me. The problem I have is that the service and support structure at the dealership doesn't seen stable enough for me. Firstly they have none in stock, none to test drive and they aren't sure when they will be bringing in any more. I wanted the s60 bad bad. They said they only bringing them in on special order. That's a little too flaky for me. What about after sales service and support? ... Are they specialized and well versed with the issues the Volvo vehicles face? Especially if they have so little focus and interest? Trust me. I am sad about how it is being managed. Maybe someone out there knows different but this is what the reps say. They don't even have a Volvo department to call. When you call that area you get redirected to someone in another brand. Sadness.

Love this Nissan's reliability and style , hate that bandits love it too. Trying for something a little lower on their scale.

Have heard of it more often than not.
Not saying they're on Almera level but too high for me.

360k for an xtrail?? Is it me or doesn't that sound a bit steep? ESP since Nissan is usually the cheaper of the Japanese brands and its features aren't that impressive either. It's in the same price bracket as the mighty rav4 and crv!
Was really leading to get a q5 myself but the after sales and support kinda quirky.. But as a young professional myself, can anyone else
confirm that they have better service than most?
What about locally or foreign used q5s? Advisable?

lots of audi interest on the forum, nice. Allergic how has your aftersale service been with Best Auto? and what kind of service intervals you looking at with the Jetta?

If you are purchasing a used Audi period have a reputable mechanic check it out, even the company as you would with any other car.

Local service leaves room for improvement, give room for the Trini aspect, parts are usually in stock but if not they handle the ordering process etc. As usual there are the good and bad experiences.

My 06 A4 just hit 103,000 km and feels the same as when it left the showroom(but with more scratches). I haven't had to do any major repairs or replacements just scheduled maintenance according to the service book, only breakdown was a coil pack which wasn't really a breakdown and a cracked plastic diverter valve that was a cheap fix.

Looking forward to the 2015 A3 2.0 quattro sedan ( personally prefer smaller cars) probably a RS7 if I win a lotto.

They service intervals for the mk6 Jetta here are every 5000 miles or 3 months to basically change oil and oil filter. One of the reasons why the intervals are shorter than in other countries with the same model is due to higher sulphur content in our gasoline.

So far the service I have experienced has been good. No real complaints. You move cool with them they move cool with you and they try their best to answer you and explain things from a technical standpoint if you so desire. As with all dealerships there are always those who aren't satisfied with them and have a story to tell but I haven't heard these stories with any frequency. I get the impression that if something were to go wrong with my vehicle they won't look to just charge me out of pocket one time but make cases to the manufacturer for good will depending on what the part is.

Parts department is cool. They don't keep part numbers secret like at Classic Motors South Branch for example. If they don't have the part you can order on your own and let them do the installation once it is an OEM part that came with your vehicle.

Sterling Service and Southern Sales also hide part numbers under lock and key. I once asked a service advisor under the strictest on confidence for a part number, and I got a lecture about how he could lose his job if he gave me it.

@Allergic sounds good man thanks...im definitely thinking about making a VW my next vehicle...but if that 2015 a3 is only within reach then imma tighten my belt and take a leap...vw's bring similar levels of luxury seeing as they are all under the same umbrella but audis are just so damn sexy and understated...

when compared to the CX5, RAV4 and CRV line-up I would say the X-Trail has a competitive price and the old-tec QR25DE motor remains very competitive in power. Space wise with the rear seats folded down, I can hardly think of any other compact SUV that is better including the Q5.

I hate to hear this fully loaded rubbish. A corolla fully loaded and an A4 fully loaded are two different things. We really ought to be posting spec sheets here. Fully loaded in US or UK is different to that here.

The Q5 would be better for the family, there is also the smaller Q3 which goes for $416K starting, around $436K with park assist, side assist and folding mirrors.
