When I bought mines, it had approx 250.000km, TBC..... It was dealer maintained right up to the time I bought it, a true gem, very hard to find. Mileage is important, but not as important as maintenance. Once it was properly maintained, you will have no problems.

In my three years of ownership, I've only changed idle arm, pitman arm, steering ends, timing belt, clutch fan blade, ,,,,,,, repaired alternator and starter, and regularly change out my oils.

Considering the licks i give this van, and see how it stands up, I am never selling, I will buy another van for comfort and utility, but for work, a k34 will always be my work horse.....

But if you are buying a k34, what is your purpose?? is it for looks and comfort, or work???

Thanks ryanm, you save me some runs, now my question is, >>> Who have a compression tester.<<<<<,

i tottally agree with u... these vans are the best.. even tho my van is 4x2.. i love it to death.... and the only reason i wud be selling is to upgrade to either a k34T or a k74T.. k34t for work.. and it does have a mean look to it... and well the k74T is my dream van... i love them... they are just so damn sexy! :) IMO! :P lol... mitsu diesel for lifee!

It's not too bad, it comparable to other l200's, not smoking white either,

But ah get through,........ ah take apart the starter yesterday (after checking the electrician twice, they said its not the starter that it was something else, but I insisted)

and the bearing had a play, so it was turning, not too lazy, but it was slowed enough to cause the engine to hard start, even the electrician was shocked, So ah back on track.

thanks for the suggestions guys, but ah still looking to do the compression test.

one more question, do you guys see a little oil on your glow plug threads (not the tip)???
I saw some on my 2nd and 4th plugs last week when i changed out....

.

ok are you sure that the engines is not back pressuring?
cause that could be a sign or back pressure take the hose from the Tappet cover off from the intake manifold side and look inside of it and see if it has oil and how much oil there is.
if it have alot of oil in the hose then the engine may be back pressuring more than needed. if this is the case instead of a rings jobs just invest in a 'oil catch can'.
another way to know if your engine is back pressuring is, when you switch off the vehicle the engine cuts off and you hear a hissing sound from the engine for 2-3 seconds. in an normal engine you might hear it for 0.5 seconds and that is okay still. but 2-3 seconds is kinda bad.

guys...

the idiots who changed the timing belts on my k14 did not assemble the crankshaft pulley properly...it started vibrating and making alot of noise for some time till i pulled it down last saturday.
now the crankshaft pulley is worn beyond repair. meaning the slop where the key goes to lock the pulley on the shaft which is usually bout half inch or so.. its now worn out bout 1 and a half inch.
also the keyway on the crank shaft is flared.. im not sure if dey battered the key in or if the pulley caused that damage on the shaft.

no coincidentally, the van is hard starting on a morning. (2 mornings now). and when it eventually starts, its burning white smoke.

i;ll be checkin my glow plugs soon. but the van is dead now.. very dead and smokes more than ever.
im guessing loosing compression, rings need changing.??

now bear in mind since the crank shaft pulley is not seated where it sposed to be.... do u think that can causing "mis timing" of the fuel pump... because im getting a very rough idle when the van eventually starts. but the ting is, it eventually evens out when the engine builds temperature...

can u guys help explain this?

after the crankshaft and pulley issue, i was settled on just looking for a crankshaft and pulley to change out and im good to go.

now with white smoke and rough idling, im wondering if its calling for an engine job/change of engine?

please give some advice....

thanks u

madman2961, not too much oil, and smoke is not too heavy,....... now the oil is not on the tip, but on the threads, the tip is dry, so the oil is not in the combustion chamber. I was told its normal by one mechanic, so i jus wanted to confirm?? its the second and forth plugs only......

cutthroatInt, ah was talking to a friend of mines and he said to check ur balance shaft belt, he said if it slips it would cause alot of white smoke and rough idle.

"the idiots who changed the timing belts on my k14"

Don't call any names, but the fella from in a back road in couva, was my mech also, they changed my brake master cylinder the same day they broke cutthroatInt, original crankshaft pully, an now DE BRAKES giving trouble again, not to mention they round out the nut that goes into the master cylinder so not even a line spanner could work on it >>>>>>>TUNERS BEWARE<<<<<<<

concerning the leak... the l200 power steering boxes are very easy to take apart.. i took apart mines a while ago.. and used gasket maker silicon around some of the O-ring seals.. and that solved my leak problem! and make sure to use a generous amount of thread seal on all bolts and the both lines that connect from the pump..... and you shud be gud to go.. i have no leaks anymore.. :)

The leak isn't the issue with me, I wanted to get a box to refurbish it, an swap wit mine. My box has too much play in it an all the adjustment down already. But odd enough, just two weeks ago, I was in de bamboo looking for a box, only for it to start leaking on sunday...... but ah only getting the pajero steering box.

The van really handle loads easy,........ I made a delivery today of 2000lbs of market produce an de van handle nice on de highway, didn't bend the spring backwards, but was heavy non the less. Still manage to do 80-90km, and was very stable.........MITSU POWA!!!!! all the way

when i do over my exhaust and work up my intake piping from filter to manifold, we go link lol... boy...it pulling nice!

non intercooled version tho.

i opted to buyin an engine after being plagued with problems after problems...
[guys, even though you may have stopped indulging in sexual related activities in your vehicle years ago, the blight NEVER leaves! ]

L200, i have a spare steering box, but as i was tellin u, there are now two k14s in d family, so im keeping everyting for spares, even the engine i took out.

the k34 and k14 box is the same, however the lines to the steering box have different fittings, the original lines will not thread up unto the donor box.
i figured the box i got f -used was 4x4 as when i carried the pitman arm that came with it to the parts place, the man said it was the 4x4 one.
and i had to make over two lines to connect the ps cooler to the ps box.

any ideas as to how to get a diesel engine to rev faster??? ;-)

im getting this on the foreigned used engine in the van rite now.
will that explain y my over flow bottle was empty after i came back from "testing out" the van on the highway?

can i come check u for u to give a diagnosis on this?

now, is backpressuring and good compression inversely related? or not related atall?

the engine starts without heating and in one tumble. but when i switch off i do hear this hissing sound coming from around the turbo area.

i will pm you my number

Hi cutthroatInt, glad to see you up an running, no scene abt the box.

>>>im getting this on the foreigned used engine in the van rite now.

I doubt poor compression is your problem, most likely its a prob wit your cooling system, check all your hoses, and your radiator cap, those are the usual suspects. That was the prob drunk24/7 was having, it was his over flow bottle hose had a leak.

Just yesterday I did a hard run wit my van, abt 110-140 on average wit no change in coolant level, The only thing is that the van not performing as it use to, my mech told me to do my injector tips thats the only part that will give me problems.

the ole girl is getting old indeed

she was on vacation all of this week - sis in tobago so i was enjoying her AUTOMATIC Lancer while she was away

started Elle tonight - talk bout a lazy defiant start

she tumbled strong and started like normal and then cut off like 2 seconds later, started again and same thing happened

on the third start I stepped on teh accelerator a little bit as soon as she started and gave a little rev - she revved rough and was belching a thick white smoke that smelled different to her normal morning exhaust

she idled normal after that

is this normal for the 4D56T :?:

Same thing happens to my dad's K34 L200 whenever the truck parks up for a few days.

We put it down to evaporation of condensation in the tank as the fuel's burned off. The white smoke disappears after the engine warms up though, replaced by black smoke due to dirty injectors.

Venum, tell me if it affects your fuel consumption on that tank. cause i would think it would thin the diesel a bit and cause you to use more fuel to do the same things compared to full diesel in the tank.

awaiting your results....

will post results in time

i was expecting the performance to drop initially with teh kerosene for the same reason that you mentioned above

and after a couple uses of the kerosene, teh performance would increase

but so far she running normal

but I only drove like 7-8 km since i put in the kero and park up since

by teh end of the week I expect that I will have a better report
