In late Feb, Guyana DF sent out a report advising of a vessel with bodies on board. Whether or not this is the same thing no one knows. Origin of the vessel is also unknown. Some are speculating that the people were on a larger boat, it was taken by pirates and they were left in this boat(real movie thing) but....who knows???

3 Coast Guard officers, 1 prisons officer arrested for Gambling

Three Coast Guard officers and one Prisons Officer, were among 21 persons arrested in Arouca on Friday 28th May 2021, for assembling for the purpose of gambling and Breach of Public Health Regulations.

Under the Public Health Regulations, Section 3(1), they will be charged with gathering in a public place where the number exceeded five.

A Covid-19 compliance exercise was conducted in Arouca between the hours of 4pm and 8 pm yesterday by members of Northern Division Task Force and members of the Northern Division Intelligence Unit. Around 6:15pm, the team acted on information and proceeded to a building at Lower Railway Road, Arouca. The officers observed a group of 21 persons and they were all arrested for assembling for the purpose of gambling and breach of Public Health Regulations.

The suspects arrested are between the ages of 20 and 58. All 21suspects are currently at the Arima and Maloney Police Stations, where charges are expected to be laid shortly.

The exercise was by spearheaded by Supt Powder, ASP Deonarine, ASP Coggins, Insp Pitt, Insp Mascall and Insp Callender and supervised by Ag/Sgt Pamphille and Ag/Cpl Khan.

ARMY MEN ARRESTED:

Around 11am on 01st June 2021, Richard Horsham Warrant, officer class 2, attached to Special Forces and Ronald Steel, Warrant officer class 2, attached to the Teteron Barracks, went to the MSP Golden Grove Piarco, having collected several bags of food items from three 3 relatives of soldiers who are presently incarcerated. A team of Prison officers on checking said items detected the following :

1. Black duffle bag containing 1534 kilograms of compressed marijuana
2. 290 packs of cigarettes
3. 100 lighters
4. 3 Electric pocket scales
5. One cell phone charger
6. One headphone
7. Four packs of razor blades.
8. One cell phone holder.
9. Fifty wrapping paper along with other food stuff items.

A party of officer led by ACP BELFON, SNR SUPT RAMDEEN, SUPT POWDER, SUPT. EDWARDS, ASP COGGINS, INSP PITT, AG INSP. CALLENDER, WSGT ROBINSON-MOTTLEY and members of the Arouca CID visited the MSP. Both soldiers were brought to the Arouca police station along with the items. Enquiries continuing by Wsgt Robinson-Mottley.

Commissioner of Prisons (Ag), Mr Shamshudeen Mohammed is today applauding the acute diligence and professionalism displayed by Officers attached to the Maximum Security Prison, who, on Tuesday June 01, 2021, at around 11:20 am, discovered a substantial quantity of contraband in the possession of two members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.

According to a report submitted, Warrant Officers Ronald Steel and Richard Horsham were allowed an approved courtesy visit at the Maximum Security Prison. Upon entry unto the compound, all necessary COVID-19 protocols were observed and they subsequently proceeded for security checks.

Several bags in their possession were found to contain a number of illegal and unauthorized items, which included several cartons of cigarettes, a quantity of plant-like substance, cigarette lighters, bottles of pepper sauce, WIFI hot spot devices, packets of razor blades, batteries, shaver machines, and wireless headsets among other items. The Officers were cautioned about their actions and the Arouca Police was contacted.

Mr. Mohammed has stated that whilst he is elated over the discovery, as it is the goal to purge the security agencies of persons who compromise the security and reputation of their respective organisations, it is also regrettable as measures for future courtesy visits would be revised. He added that he is working closely with all authorities involved with the ongoing investigation.

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service continues to do its part in its fight against rogue elements and criminal behaviour, and will utilize all feasible measures and security protocols as part of its mandate to ensure public safety and security.
