sometime last year I made a couple posts that soon we'll be seeing $300K as the new "normal" for compact cars, guess it's starting
sure whenever the new corolla comes out TTTL will take the civic's price into consideration, and increase accordingly 0X

Nah dred Classic motors playing the ass ... no way is a civic with a 1.6 liter engine worth around 240. I mean my jetta is 240 but is has a twin clutch transmission, a twin-charged engine and sticks to the road like glue.

What Classic is doing is thy factoring the costs of their 5 year insurance and 5 years free maintenance into the car one time. As someone posted already, they would never give away things for free, you end up paying for everything plus the profit they want to make on it.

That civic is probably worth 200 thousand, the extra 40 is for maintenance and insurance plus they make money from the interest payments ... If people dumb enuff they have a golden egg laying goose on their hands.

The base civic around the world is only about 10 to 12 g's (tt) higher than a similar specced corolla. Si its not that much more expensive.

Na Toyota proved itself to be one of the most reliable brands over the years if not the most. So... The price justified for trini ppl at least. Has a better track record than Mazda for sure.
Honda on the other hand..reliable brand yes but 290 for a 1.8 civic?! He'll fricking no.

All vehicles are reliable though, even down to the Euro vehicles. Once you maintain your vehicle how you're supposed to, then it's going to go the distance with you. The DIFFERENCE between Toyota and Mazda/Audi/Lancer/Chevy/Suzuki etc. is that Toyota owners can mistreat/not service their vehicles for longer periods of time without any negative effects on the car lol

Got a friend that has a PCP Toyota that probably serviced 2 (maybe 3) times since it left the showroom and it's still running daily on the road smh. Sorry for whoever he sell that to.

Saw a documentary on an engineer that worked at Toyota for 13 years. He said that while all the other car companies (mercedes, VW, GM) buy all the new tech for their cars, Toyota will buy the 20 to 30 year tech that has a reliable track record. So that's why their cars can take licks...

But seriously a 4 speed automatic gearbox in 2013 ............. LOL ........

I still find that speed isn't something you can compare really in Trinidad where we don't exactly have the roads to be driving at fast speeds without doing so recklessly / basically dodging in and out of traffic. Unless you do all of your driving between 2AM - 4AM. a 4 speed auto box shouldn't be the factor that makes or breaks it for you.

A 4 speed box in Germany or New York on the other hand ...........

Well ... thats just my opinion.
If you get what I'm saying.

Spoken like everyone else that cannot appreciate a good driver's car ... It's not about top speed and clear roads. It's about enjoying the vehicle dynamics, heel and toeing as you shift, getting the back of the car to come around on queue, pulling hard from 0-60 through a sweeping series of turns is infinitely more fun than going flat out on an empty road.

This is the sort of thinking that will have us all in electric econo boxes because, "why would you want all that speed".

You can enjoy a sports car anywhere at anytime .... except traffic, no need to be cutting people off or trying to drive at 200 down the avenue to do so.

Didn't know we had a nascar highway to be healing and towing and drifting the tail of the vehicle to hit the front and whatever else mumbo jumbo you just said, lol the majority of highway in Trinidad have traffic lights anyway

and when do we NOT have traffic in Trinidad? Lol today is Saturday and it had traffic ALL DAY on the roads. Hey there is still a lot of cars on the road RIGHT NOW and it's 10PM. You think you could "appreciate" a car on the road now without cutting in front of somebody or tailing them?

Unless you're one of those that drive to slow down 10 feet away then ok.

Urm ... there is no traffic light from POS all the way to Golconda (end of the highway down south). That is probably most of the highway. Also heading south in the morning and heading out of south in the evening tends not to land you in the traffic you describing.

And its alot of fun to stick up in someones ass who refuses to move from the right lane driving at 90 kph (even tho the left lane is clear), while only using the gears to control your speed .. no brakes :)

Yep - my guess would be as soon as this first imported batch sells out (I think some of cheaper base models are almost if not already sold out).

Having a 6/7/8 speed automatic transmission really isn't about speed it gives the car greater fuel economy.

Now these transmissions do give you more usable power particularly for turbo engines and small displacement engines because your engine can always be in the power band. I'm not talking highway speed but, power in circumstances where you need to overtake or for the smaller displacement engines that need the most power output when driving on hills etc.

My 4-speed auto Forester 2.5XT has no problem with speed let me tell you. Fuel economy on the other hand, it hurts to talk about it.

In 2013, it is crazy to still have a 4-speed auto in the RAV, since the inferior transmissions are not even available in the U.S markets.

One thing I generally like about buying european cars is that if you buy a VW Tiguan in UK or Trinidad it doesn't matter. They still fit the cars at the same quality level with front/side/curtain airbags, driving assistance programs, and same transmissions that are all standard across the line-up. And you can order almost any feature. Not to long ago, ABS was not a standard feature on the Toyota Yaris or Corolla in Trinidad. The 2012 Honda CR-V with Leather I test drove last year didn't even have curtain airbags while it has been a standard feature in the US/Canada/UK for at least 4 years. Subaru's standards remain standard across most markets which I like as well.

The speed limit is 80 kph so what you are doing is driving like an idiot. Its also fun to drive slower when some idiot driver up on your bumper.
