WOW, I love these cars bad..

zodiaque,if you going for a full restoration of the chassis and body, why not put in a roll cage one time if the budget permits. there are a few of these that I see now that look really well kept.

Passion is priceless (Tatsuru Ichichima, Spoon Sports)....

It' a posibility I guess, I won't want to have it too exposed if I go that route, porbabliy could hide it in with the uphoustery somehow like in the TME evo 6s. Might have to cut the dash like Droppa say though, not too keen on that aspect, although I paint it white already

nah,
if you get one from a japan lancer they bend the cage around the dash so no cutting needed. It bolts to the floor.

If you guys interested we could talk. Sounds like a useful "week-end project".

I have a foreign "bolt-in" ("Cusco") cage (with padding) for an E6 that we could use for design... It goes through dashboard, but that's the stronger way. That's why I bought it in the first place.

If you all interested we could use as a pattern for connectors, braces etc. BTW a "local" weld-in cage costs up to $14k TT. Many from "sheit" mild steel tube, or exhaust pipe (not good.) We should be able it make "padded" custom-fit cages for about half that cost (I hope!)

We have to make male and female connectors and buy 2 mm "carbon steel" or equivalent. Then bend PVC "mock-up" and fit in sample car for good fit. We need a "heat gun"! Who has one? My EX 1800 GSR is available for "set-up" if you all want to use it.

If enough 2nrs are interested we can get lower price for connector-manufacture with group buy. A 2nr wants connectors for E6 cage as well. I want two sets - one E6 / one EX Lancer. That's three right there, so costs can go even lower.

The biggest problem is the bending and fabrication work. 'Rasta' Darryl in Bamboo is good, but forget it. He will never have the time for this. I waited for over six months (finally gave up.) Forget Wayne Persad in Sando too (crap material, and no facilities to machne connectors well.) One other option. Let me know. :D

I would have been interested if I had the dough and If i could have put the car down for a whille and do all the bodywork one time. If any of you decide to go ahead with it I would sure like to come and see how it's done :D

Pattern (Evo 4-6 cage) is "bolt-in" ("12 or 14-point" AFAIK) so yup cage can be removed.
Each cage could be made to your particular needs... your design (following the pattern)
So less connectors, tubing and fabricating = lower cost.

For my cars (E6 and EX GSR) the cages will be close to upholstry (almost "built-in")
It will go through dashboard (to floor) and rear parcel shelf (following rear
roof-line) to "tie-in" with rear shock mounting points.
So mine will cost me more than others who want less.
"X" brace in rear seat area (and front door side-bars) will also be removable for
the street (add-on for Solodex, circuit, drags etc.)

We need more 2nrs first, to bring down the price for connectors.
I can supply "donor car" (EX Lancer) for "set-up" + E6 cage as sample for fabrication...
So someone get a price for 2 mm thick, seamless, carbon steel tube ($$$ per 20 ft. length.)
We could use 2mm thick "chrome moly" seamless tubing if we can't get carbon steel (???)

Meanwhile, if anyone knows good engineering firm personally, we can take a section of cage for them to measure, for quote on connectors required.

Okay... and I have a secure, covered space to work on it in the Maraval area (near Savannah.) Sample cage and tools there too (and camera for pix.)

If somebody puts together the tubing supplier, costing and other details maybe we can start on it soon. Then maybe in a couple weeks you can bring kamikaze to look at what we've done (with 1st the wire-frame model and 2nd the PVC template) and give a quote on connectors??? :D

Design pix and real world samples coming soon...

Get prices (1/8" welding rod / 1" pvc etc.) and more interested 2nrs and let's take it from there,
... else it might never get done. Call when yuh ready... 633-4552.

btw TREX lookin' for an E6 cage... and pm Devi Nath too.

How easy is the 2.0 RWD (4g63) to source? or even the FWD, could just do a swutcharoo on the direction of it.

well the rear wheel drive will be the easier to find, not really in the bamboo but out there from ppl that swapped out.

The twin cam 4G63 will be in the bamboo but far and wide. And expect to pay anything from 8000-12000 for the turbo. Best deal is work something out with Navin to bring a cut in for you. I know him long time and he's about the only dealer I'll trust to do that.

still looking for an axle. :(
