olewhip wrote:i am guessing you will need a low speed high torque motor with an electronic controller, which can adjust torque at start up and running speeds plus provide protection to the motor.
or you can look for a low speed motor and experiment with different size pulleys.
or a high speed motor with a reducing gear box that wil prevent direct overload to the motor from stress or jams comming from the pail, (gear ratios and amount of gears will be important)

honestly a threadmill motor dosent sound so bad as it can provide you with a precise speed and torque. other than that a washing machine motor with pulleys and or gears.

good luck and hope you figure it out soon.

Instead of using a lot of different pulley, he could just use a rheostat to vary the motor speed as you stated, which would be a lot cheaper than actually have to acquire and couple different pulleys to the shafts.

Once he can determine the rpm that he needs to turn the mix, he can move in a backward direction to size the motor that he requires.

Why don't you connect a variable frequency drive to an AC motor directly to where the handle goes........no need for belt and pulley. This will give you the control required to manipulate the speed. Benefits are energy saving and performance control.

Use to buy from that guy on Sundays if its the same guy. Heading into Arima on Old Road, he's located on the left hand side of the road. Is a blue tarpaulin with pale and everything set up right dey. My dad didn't like his ice cream, I loved it.

Washing machine motor might work , but it has to be a small one ( think twin tub small machine ) coz u're prob not going more than 20 RPM if so much .. ( you don't want to spin the pail to fast you'll get whipped cream instead of ice cream )

An industrial drill motor might work too . Good luck :D

Try little store ( curepe ) they have motors for dhal grinding machines which would work perfect for your project .
