Water Taxi fares to Increase !!!

I like the water taxi. Nice ride, good price. 20.00 dollars is to much for me though. I disagree with the parking comment. there is enough parking in south... more is needed up north. I fully agree with a smaller taxi in case of a half empty trip. Also, they should have a package courrier system to ship packages to make some more money on each trip.

whats the sense in running a "water taxi" that is almost half empty most of the times, make 2 trips for the day...there is little parking on the wharf and in pos for people wanting to use the water taxi....plus the amt of money the government has to pump into it daily inorder to balance the books....yes its the government's responsibility to provide public transport and subsidies the losses but in the long run does this make sense??

a proper feasibility study should have been done to see if this made any economical sense....

right. during peak times. those boats are full
almost impossible to buy a ticket for the 1st sailing each day, unless done the day before.
2 trips a day, i think its 6 trips each of the boats make.

you seem as "ignorant" about it, as rachel price was about the overpass when she said it didn't make a change in the traffic.

if you are not familiar with the alternative, you won't recognize the improvement.
Ive been on the north south commute for the last 3+ years. The water taxi is a fantastic alternative.
It should however be made to cater more for those working in PoS, by having more accommodation from 5a-7a going to PoS, and 3pm-7pm heading out of PoS. since it was primarily the higway congestion leading into / out of PoS they attempted to address.

Parking can be improved, but is not much of an issue, because it is possible to travel to / from there, or have someone drop off you off / pick you up.

Either get there early, do the above, or decide 2-3 hours in traffic is more comfortable to you.

True talk.. the rush hour ferries go up full everyday, if they doubled the capacity tomorrow within a few weeks those boats would be filled as well

However... if Jack sees it to be a strain on the treasury and wants to phase it out a $40 fare would be a good way to do it... at that price many people will not take it... so they could say "but nobody eh riding de ferry"

Then the could sell the ferries make a nice lil change... money drain problem SOLVED!

Only thing is if they do that then you have to solve:

1. Approximately 1000 extra vehicle going up the highway each day
2. Parking for 1000 vehicles in Port of Spain
3. Jobs for the 100 or so employees of the service
4. A couple thousand people who now have an additional 2 hours of leisure time lost
5. Only ONE main link between North and South Trinidad
6. Cost of re-purposing the port infrastructure

i agree with aaron and a few others here..

the funds spent on the water taxi could have been invested in other ways. more buses, if they invested in buses and i mean an efficient bus service and we have some alternative routes wouldn't this be better for us in the long run?

Trinidad's population isn't getting smaller, why not look at alternative routes and create new road ways. are we going to stick with one major highway from north to south for the next 50 years?

find a solution to the traffic congestion in pos esp.
de-centralization, multilevel parking complexes etc.
make it illegal to park on the streets of downtown pos and provide these multilevel car parks.(wouldn't this help with the traffic problem in pos)

how much does it cost to maintain the vessels?

it's a good service.. if only there was a way to make the boats more profitable,

for eg, maybe make a tobago run and back between the morning south-POS and after work POS-south runs....

$5 increase is $50 a week, $200 increase a month... that may be the difference for many people
