So its now 2007, the dreaded year for drag racers, wallers close down, no where to race, so we just driving our cars to get a doubles in d morn.

so in October 2007, word spread about a Couva track called camden. So back to the strip but after a few runs running in 15sec, the car constantly got slower.

Remember i told you all that we was losing compression in the engine, we decided to switch the head and block from one of the spares we had. Now DON'T DO THIS AT HOME!!! It is recommended to refresh the engine with new parts, rings seals etc. but the thing is we was suspecting the head had problems as we was seeing milk (oil and water mix) racing does take a toll on your engine.... :(

so with this ok condition head and block ran a best time of 14.6 ( will try to get this time slip up as well) now here is the thing when u driving a fairly slow car, you learn to drive better, better reaction time, faster shifting etc. All because youknow you dont have loads of power, so you have to work on your driving skill, i always say DRIVER is 1sec on the strip!

Image

BUT later on that year, started going slower and slower. We realised that our faithful barrel type Supra intercooler got a hole from rubbing on a braket. Now we thought it was the pump failing so we changed to a Walbro pump replacing the Shiva pump.

Image

Well excuse to upgrade so we got a fairly cheap X02 tube and fin intercooler from BCR Ltd. in Princestown for around $1600.00 Now tube and fin is not the best, bar and plate is but bar and plate is also heavier and the air stays longer in it. Tube and fin is more for smaller turbos, short burst of boost. A bar and plate is more for high volumes of boost, good for Rx-7s :D :D Plus tube and fin cheaper too.

Image

Image

but cooling woes were not over so we replaced the stock laser radiator and replaced it with a DFU (dfu is an old dude who makes radiators topps)
The DFU is a 3 core brass but because its wider we had to replace the stock fan with a thinner one so we installed a Flexalite flat fan throwing out more CFM of air than the stock. it was a tight fit but it worked.
Image

The all round temp dropped and even when running the car hard it kept the temperature in check. Nice! :D

Now we was racing in Camden for most of the year, running in the 15sec category and enjoying ourselves. We bought one of those TurboSmart mechanical Boost controllers and stepped up to 12psi. Now the 88'-89' B677 ECU could accomodate for timing up to this limit but anything after, you need an aftermarket ECU or some sort of full Engine management.

here is some pics of us racing in Camden:

I think thats it for now i will add in future stuff as we do it :D .Thanks for tuning in. :D :D

I remember there was a thread somewhere about this forum when that 4wd hatchback was being built....I had my hatchback laser at that time. That build can't be compared to the sedan's......I feel the Sedan is the beast.

well this story is kinda up to date dats everything up to 2009 will add in little things here and there as i rem. so i will start the hatch in a bit

the hatch is better for take off, handling but the sedan is the killer it will smoke the hatch as soon as 3rd gear hit

I believe it was a massive rebuild from a foreign 2 door laser shell.

the 323 GTX floor and rear section was put under the laser and fit like a sandwich. same dimensions( i love how ford and mazda work together!) I will recommend noone to attempt this unless they have a full laser and 323 GTX!

<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/7889/pa1003186pn.jpg" border="0" width="448" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a>

here is the rear diff under the laser. kool huh?

<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/8527/pa1003202da.jpg" border="0" width="448" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a>

this is how d floor fit in the laser, the 323 GTX seats and floor carpet is going to be used with the laser dash.

<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/7433/pa1203215fy.jpg" border="0" width="448" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a>

last thing to go up was d driveshaft. surprisingly it went up flush no mods needed!
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/6161/pa1203233ml.jpg" border="0" width="448" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a>

B6T engine mated to a close ratio 4WD gearbox.

Its now off to the bodyshop! hope to finish by jan. that would make it exactly 1 year since we start[/quote]

oh i forgot the latest upgrade which was a Phantom Grip LSD. Our gearboxes uses the same as the SR20, the 906 GOLD. Basically the Phantom Grip is two metal plates with springs in them that press against the crown gears in the diff of the gearbox.

Image

well according to the instructions, the Phantom Grip needs to be properly worn in on the crown gears, so it was recommended to put on some miles on it, at average speed so that week we drove up the highway everynite. well so far it did not fail yet. this mod gave us the grip to drop us down to the 14.6 dropping .3 of a sec with a better 60ft time.
